I was just watching a Saban interview and it reminded me of some freezing cold take material one of my old Army buddies had back in 2007. For context, the guy is a super LSU & SEC homer. He's like the stereotypical Finebaum show caller.

Saban hadn't coached his first game yet and we were just shooting the shit about the upcoming season and I mentioned that the road would be a little tougher for LSU going forward with Saban in the conference. My buddy dismissed Saban's potential impact and said Saban would be frustrated by the lack of success and gone within 5 years. His comments surprised me considering Saban had won a title for LSU just a few years prior.

Anyway, fast forward 15 years and Saban's still there with 6 championship rings since 2007 and no. 7 is on the horizon. I'm going to text him later to see if he remembers this conversation. :lol

Quit holding participation bowls
This is what the problem comes down to, IMO.

These players and coaches just don't want to participate in these meaningless games anymore. The greedy NCAA has watered down and completely devalued the accomplishment that used to come with getting to a bowl game.

Also, maybe I'm missing some content but I haven't seen a lot of fan outrage and backlash about these bowl games being cancelled. That's another indicator that you have too many bowl games. No one cares that the Hawaii Bowl has been cancelled two years in a row.

I'm pretty sure all these teams blaming COVID just to drop out of the games would actually play if these were playoff games.

Totally with you. When your team barely gets above .500 the bowl game really doesn't feel like it means much. Now when I was in college I went to the outback bowl and it was still an absolute blast. At Iowa the college kids loved being able to go somewhere fun for a bowl game so I get that. But some of this just needs to be trimmed off. Or expand the playoffs so it's not just the same 4 teams getting to the post season and everyone else is fucked.

Once they expand to the 12 team playoffs I'd start trimming the fat.

I'd keep 10 bowl games at most. That way it makes sure only top 25 teams get rewarded with a postseason game.

The only one who probably cares is ESPN, who finances all these games to have content to show. I think actual attendance at a lot of them is pretty poor.

I can't believe there are no posts on the Cotton /Rev/skid VS Zero Club bowl

Actually forgot about it but i have to work here in a bit anyways. The new staff is peeking my interest right now so my lack of interest wont be too long.

We are just amazed right now. In shock, if you will.

But, we are loving it.
SEC dominance will assert itself, per usual. Sit back and behold.

Seriously, though, MSU is missing something like 10 players. I believe 8 to COVID. I'm disappointed in the announcers ... they've done a poor job of indicating exactly who is out.

Your players would be playing right now if they stopped testing.

Hard to say it'll hold given the missing players, but this MSU team has shown a knack for comebacks (overcoming slow starts).

This ref's intercom thing sucks ass.

How did they confirm that was a sack when he clearly was still up when he threw it? Both announcers agreed.
