Election Chatter Thread...

Did anyone expect Romney to win that year? I didn't follow it like I am now, but he barely seemed like he even wanted to win.
yes, after the first debate when he mopped the floor with Kenya boy. then he mailed it in.

even Politico, a left-wing rag, was worried about Obama's sparse crowds. it amounted to nothing. Biden's counting on the same thing.

I don't think the Obama Romney campaign is particularly comparable to this one.

All I'm saying is don't be fooled by crowd sizes. Biden supporters might be staying away because they think they have it in the bag.

Off the top of my head a better comp would be W vs Kerry.

Highly hated, villified and criticized-in-the-media incumbent vs an uninspiring, mediocre and thoroughly discredited challenger who hates his country and whose only use to his base is that he's not the other guy.

I don't disagree that the crowd sizes aren't necessarily indicative of what's going to happen, but I think the thing that kills the Obama Romney comparison is that Romney was not the incumbent and never had the enthusiasm Trump has. Also Romney had zero chance at chipping away at Obama's minority votes. Obama's base always loved him and that's not true of Biden, he's been more convenient than anything and basically had to be show horned into the nomination (which I think matters a lot more than people realize).

here's the problem: Trump is not an ordinary man or incumbent. his supporters have to put up with a lot of craziness and dysfunctional behavior. Dem hatred for him and lust for regaining power might "trump" his loyal, forgiving fanbase.

it also seems like his supporters are likely to be more strict social distancing and mask wearers to the point they feel virtuous and superior for being so compliant (unless of course its a protest, then all bets are off) so it would be consistent not to participate in a large rally.
