might as well flush this season. Serious question, can we get Trevor Lawrence?

I would seriously see if ATL, CHI, CAR, DEN, IND, MIN, NYJ, or Niners would give a 1st for Dak. Some of them still have a chance this season especially if they had Dak. Niners would have to go big for them to be an option as they will likely make the playoffs.

One first isn't enough, I wouldn't trade him for anything less than 2 1's and that'd only be two a team who I think would return us another top 10 pick this year.

He's a 27 year old top 10 QB who currently leads the league in yards while averaging 8.4 YPA with 12 total TD's to 6 total turnovers. Even if some of it is due to garbage time stats there's a 0.0% chance I'm trading that to a team like the Colts, Bears or 49ers for like the 25th pick.

I'd need two 1's and at least a 2nd from a team like the 49ers or Bears.

Not a chance. This team will always find a way to get in its own way.

You have a stellar offense and a shit defense. Why would you ruin the offense to match the defense? All for hope that a couple first rounders make up the difference.

If Lawrence was Luck 2.0, then maybe. And call me crazy, but not even Burrow (who I absolutely loved/love) was on that level as a prospect. He’s been the closest thing since, but Luck out of Stanford was unreal.

I like Lawrence, but not that much. Maybe my scouting eye is off on this, but he isn’t a surefire can’t-miss type.

I think Lawrence is great. But you're not trading up to number one without giving up all 3 first round picks and potentially not even then. And if he ends up Andrew Luck good, you still really didn't get anywhere. The only advantage I see to trading Lawrence for Dak and oir original first round pick is that we save cap room. Cap room we'd waste on the Crawfords and Demarcus Lawrences of the world so who gives a shit.

Of course, that is the inevitable downside with this organization. Saving money at the most expensive position, but for what? Would they really capitalize? Historically speaking, how could anyone with a brain say anything but no. This team dug itself out of the Romo cap hell, but has yet to use that money wisely.

So yeah, pessimism reigns supreme, courtesy of the f’n Jones’.

Exactly right.

A quick look at salary numbers and Jaylon's Smith, Crawford, and Hotboyz Lawrence account for over $40 million. I'd certainly pay that to Dak before this three bums. At least he's coming close to earning it.

I was answering the question of could we be in a position for Lawrence. If we traded Dak now. We would most likely tank the rest of the year(we'd probably go on some stupid luck adventure with the way this team operates) and have our own first and 1-2 more to trade up to get him. I personally wouldn't blow up this offense yet. it's working. The defense is a whole other story.

I think we would be in position but it's too much of a risk since if you don't get number 1 and someone like the Jets or Panthers do, then you're shit out of luck because I'm not really that enticed by Fields or Lance. It's much more likely that we'd end up at 4-6 or something and at that point you're kind of forced into taking a QB who you just hope will end up as good as Prescott.

That's why I'd just let the season play out and see where we end up, at this point paying Dak 40/year is the least of our concerns. He's already making 31.5 this year and we have a decent enough roster on paper, the problem is that we have $27 million in dead weight between Crawford/Jaylon/Lawrence (you could bump that to $45 if you include Griffen/Poe/Woods/Worley/Lee) and another $11 million on IR in Smith/Collins.

That's $56 million, damn near 33% of the cap that you're getting basically 0 return on for a variety of reasons, so the issue is resource allocation (Crawford/Lawrence/Griffen/Poe, etc.) and to a lesser extent injuries (Smith/Collins).

Long story short, we should be able to build a competitive team with Dak making 40/year given how he's playing. It's not ideal obviously because he'd be overpaid, but it's certainly doable. The problem is that you can't have fucking $30-40 million in dead weight salary going to under performers on top of it, which is why I'd move to get rid of a guy like Jaylon ASAP so we can clear his salary off the books in future years even if we don't save that much in 2021.

Extremes are rarely good. We went from one extreme to the other on defense.

Yeah but we had a period like this under Campo as well. I remember a time when we were getting gashed against the run with him (albeit with less talent) and he had to "simplify" everything.

I mean, it seems like we have just as many coordinators who can't get the balance right as who can.

This has to tell us something more. Is it that Jerry simply isn't capable of picking a non extreme coordinator at a rate any better than a coin flip in the last two decades?
