2020 Random Cowboys Stuff Thread...

I was referring to the 2013 loss to the Lions on the road, but yes, the Packer loss was just as devastating.

That 2013 game is at the very top of my personal list of worse Cowboys losses during the Garrett era. I blame Garrett & Romo for that one.

We were absolutely destroying them with Murray and the run game and for whatever reason --probably just selfishly trying to pad the passing stats-- they completely abandoned the running game which was the primary reason they built a 26-3 halftime lead.

The Cowboys abandoning the running game was such a head-scratcher that day that even the Packers defensive players openly questioned why the Cowboys stopped running the. They admitted they had no answer for Murray and they were glad the Cowboys decided to abandon the run.
That game alone was a fireable offense, especially after Garrett threw Romo under the bus and wouldn't take any blame. That we had to live thru years more of gingerfuck after that is insane

Romo like any performer needed a director to reign him in when he started to do too much.

Yeah the Packers are stacking the line to stuff the run— No you still do not audible to a pass motherfucker. Had Jason screamed that into Romo’s helmet radio before the play you might have seen him hand off for a zero yard gain like he should have.

You know Brady/Belichick, Favre/Holmgren, Montana/Walsh, Aikman/Jimmy all had those moments.

Romo carried Bill Parcells with him as long as he could, but a fading memory can’t override your gut in the heat of battle for long.

Anyways, those days are past.

McCarthy is by most measures a solid coach with legit creds and that’s exactly what Dak needs to get to the next level. Hopefully the bottom doesn’t fall out of the OL.

That's the game where the popular gif of Murray taking off his helmet in anger comes from.

Even he was yelling to "run" the ball.

We lost so many games in the Garrett era due to sheer incompetence. And at the heart of that incompetence was inexplicably abandoning the run.

Hell, it just never really stopped. Even in the 2016 rematch in the playoffs vs Green Bay, Dak's interception when we were making a comeback was thrown on 2nd and 1 from an empty backfield set after Zeke had just gained 9 on 1st down.

Hate is not a strong enough word to describe how much I dislike seeing us go into empty sets on 2nd/3rd and short, especially when the running game was clicking.

We were basically canceling out our own advantage in that situation.

And screaming to every defense:

"THIS IS WHAT WE'RE DOING!"

Amazing how quickly Felix Jones fell off. I mean, look how many homeruns with so little attempts.

Exactly this.

The primary tactical objective of every single head coach and coordinator is to create mismatches.

Offensively, the best way to do that is to put the defense in a position where they can't get a handle on what it is the offense is going to do on any given play.

And what is the most effective formula for accomplishing this? Establishing an effective running game.

And even with bad offensive lines in 2011-2013, the Cowboys still ran the ball well. From 2014 till now, they've been arguably the best running team in football. And yet so often during those seasons with Garrett, we would take those mismatches and advantages gained by establishing the run and throw them down the gutter ourselves.

What the hell is the point of putting a defense in a 2nd and 1 while your RB is averaging 5 YPC only to then go empty backfield and give the defense a freebie?

It infuriated me to see the Cowboys do that and they did it so very often.

2nd and 1 inside enemy territory with a clicking running game is the situation all offensive coordinators live for, and yet Garrett treated it like it was 3rd and 8 from our own 22 yard line.

It was fucking mind-boggling. Why would you intentionally let the opposing defense off the hook?

Good fucking riddance, Garrett.

And what kind of an offensive coordinator constantly needs a 'running game helper'? Only one.

Good fucking riddance, Garrett indeed.

Goodell is a total asshole.

Of course, why would he do anything that might actually help a team to plan ahead of the draft?

I'm kinda glad he won't. It will prevent us from relying on them in the draft and missing out on players (BPA) that might fall to us.
I don't know. Jerry and son are such huge sunshine pumpers that I could easily see them operating as if it's a forgone conclusion that both Gregory & Smith will be available to them this season.

Fuck David Irving.

Gregory will be. I have zero doubt of this.
