Murray turns down 4 year 16 million dollar offer?

I've counted him gone for awhile now. Probably best anyways as I think we shortened his tread quite a bit this year.

No blame from me either. This his is one chance to get set up for life. I just don't want Dallas to be the team that sets him up
 
I like him, but he's not going to have another season like this one, and paying for "past performance" should be a thing of the past.

He's going to be a 5mill per RB for the next 3 maybe four seasons at most, so 16/4 sound like a great starting point to me, he can test the waters, if someone breaks the bank for him good for him.

Of course he won't. Look at the list of players who've had seasons like and what they did the seasons after. Taking out the players who got injured, the production dropped something like an average of 700-800 yards for the year. Only Sanders would put up another season like it.

Give him a decent base and incentives. If he doesnt meet the criteria then he doesnt earn mega bucks. Take the gamble out of it for both sides. Decent base then chase the reward. Both positions come out okay which ever it goes. I think Jones will take this road but within limits of the ability to manage the cap.
 
sadly, it will take a boatload of money to keep him, but knowing jerry's love of retaining his stars, he'll probably get it. it's the worst thing for the team though.
 
They need to keep him on a four year deal.

He's a great player and poured his heart into this season.

But they also need to draft a guy.

This position must be extremely sound. They've invested way too much in their OL to go cheap at RB.

It means the secondary will just have to suffer. They must upgrade their DL, especially the interior.

No doubt. I wish him the best and hope we land AP. Have him do a PSA about how child abuse is bad and get his ass to Dallas!

I disagree. We should have a platoon of a few guys at the position. I would like to see a veteran brought in, a high 2015 draft pick and one of either Randle or Dunbar kept around for the position next year. The defense is what needs to be overhauled.
 
Spending a high draft pick on a RB is one of the last things I hope we do.

As much as I like Gordon, we simply cannot afford to do this given the amount of defensive holes we have to plug.

Gotta go all defense early on unless there is a too good to pass up opportunity sitting there.

No doubt. RBs are a dime a dozen. Either grab one in FA or mid to late in the draft.
 
If we let Murray go that's fine, but we damn sure better have a serious replacement.

The bulk of running backs are a dime a dozen, that's true. But elite running backs are not. Murray played at an elite level.

Exactly.

I know there are plenty who want to attribute all of his success to the O-line, but you don't run for 1,800 yards just because you have holes to run through. Murray is one of the best all around backs in football and his value and contributions should not be diminished.

I'm ok with letting him walk, but we better bring in someone of quality or we're going to suffer the consequences. This team cannot make the mistake of thinking they can plug in whoever and it's going to be business as usual.

Yep. If it was just the OL then everyone should be happy with Randle and let him carry the mail 25 times a game.

Absolutely. He was great this year. I am not going to send him away and be all "good riddance". He had outstanding symmetry with the OL...he was patient and allowed holes to develop. Also, his drive in short yardage was impressive...powered through in many instances.

What would you consider a decent base? 4/16?
 
People aren't taking RBs in the first much any more, but the good ones aren't going to be available in the second half of the draft. Once you get down there, you're talking about more Joseph Randles.
