2026 Random Cowboys Stuff Thread...

Im glad McCarthy is gone. Shot wasn't the answer by far but Mike wasnt the ultimate answer. Sure we could be regular season champs every year but im not settling just because they aren't Shot or Garrett.

Well glad is the wrong word. Ok is probably better.

I'd gladly take my chances in the playoffs while consistently winning double digit games yearly over this.

That McCarthy era marked the most successful coaching tenure we've had in 30 years.

Yeah, I would clutch hard to that.

I think sometimes now that we have some time between then and now people forget just how truly awful of a HC Garrett was.

Remember the 2011 Lions game when we were up 27-3 in the third quarter and Garrett still had us throw like 50 times, the Lions got 2 pick 6s (including from Bobby Carpenter) and came back and won?

How about the 2013 Packers game against Matt Freaking Flynn. We were winning at halftime 26-3. Murray had 7 yards a carry and over a hundred yards and Garrett inexplicably abandoned the run. We had the ball late in the 4th up 5 and continued to pass and threw a pick that wound up costing the game. Murray finished with 7 yards an attempt on just 18 carries.

And of course we could go on and on about Garrett's HC fuck ups.

Schottenheimer is a god awful HC but so was Garrett. I think they're probably about even in that regard.
Hey… we can go on and on about the comparisons to Garrett …. But we don’t need to .. Schotty is setting his own lows .. he’s writing his own story …. He’s leaving his own skid mark on this team and franchise . He is without a shadow of a doubt way in over his head ..it’s not just 1 game … it’s been the entire season!!!!! Head scratcher after head scratcher ….poor decision after poor decision. …. I’m over this clown already and take Parker with ya ..

Everybody would take that as well over this.

Nobody said fire McCarthey because I want Shott. McCarthy just cant coach in the playoffs.

I didnt want Quinn either. Wanted better.

It's not in hindsight. I was arguing in favor of McCarthy all along in his tenure, even when SOME here actually advocated firing McCarthy in favor of Dan Quinn. (coughcough)

I don't think I ever advocated for it, I hypothesized that it might make sense but with how 2023 ended it was never a real consideration.

Here's the thing, it's impossible to square what we think are the right moves with Jerry's demented version of reality.

If I was running this bullshit team (you all should be so lucky), I'd have fired McCarthy after 2023 and Johnson and Macdonald would've been at the top of my list with a few others.

Of course in hindsight keeping McCarthy compared to this shit show looks great, but how about keeping McCarthy vs. running a normal HC search either after 2023 or 2024?

Give me the normal HC search.

And even after 2024 I was ok keeping him because he at least set a high floor, but if it was me I'd have let him walk and gone after guys like Johnson, Vrabel and such.

So yea, keeping McCarthy would've been fine, but we could've and should've been able to do better.

And for the record, I don't see how continuing to support this team going into 2027 is possible if they keep Schottenheimer.

At least from 2011-13 we were playing for the division in the last game of the season and just lost, often while rebuilding large parts of the roster. Garrett should've been gone after 2012 but at least they were getting close.

This offense is top 5 in the league on paper and it looks like they aren't even going to be anywhere near contention going into the last week or two of the season.

Now that I've reminisced about some of Garrett's massive failures this (and the Baltimore game) were very much like Garrett losses.

Say what you will about McCarthy we didn't lose games like this during his tenure. Such a shame we had an at least decent coach for once and we didn't appreciate what we had.

The Steelers are 6-2, btw. With a 42 year old qb.

What's funny is, I've checked X and until at least yesterday, the vast majority of Steelers fans were still bitching about Mike... Bad play calling, not using Warren enough, etc.

They have no idea what truly bad coaching is.

If he has ANY success as a playcaller, get ready to see Jerry make him our next coach:

Good lord.

We've reached such a low point that even Stephen A. Smith is making sense:

Please. Ryan is a big personality who would command a lot of money, and Jerry hates both of those things.
