2026 Season | Week 7 | Gameday Chatter Thread | Cowboys @ Eagles | 10/27/2026

Again, listen to the pc -- there's nothing wrong with it. Schottenheimer wasn't as expansive as usual, but then he usually talks too much. He should be this way all the time. Not like he was a huge dick to the media. And even if he was, who really cares?

Just more non-football drama.

Yeah overblown nothing. Schotty was still in the locker room acting like they just beat the greatest team in the world.

At least when Parker came in he was like, meh.

I'll say it again but that was absolutely the right call.

Nowadays everyone seems to want to be all aggressive all the time but as we saw the game play out some safe plays were warranted there, you don't want to give them life when they're an offense on life support but still a formidable defense. The one pass they threw was almost a pick 6 and people wanted them to be aggressive on that drive?

Know your opponent.

Agreed, I didn't have any issue with that given the score and time on the clock

My only issue is that Schottenheimer largely sucks and coming up with plays inside the 10ish unless we're right on the 2-3 yard line and can mash Williams in.

My issue with the give up call is that they don't have multiple plays for inside their own 10, that expand upon how much they run slants. So on 2nd down, their slant gets jumped for the 8 millionth time per game and it scares them into a safe play on third. Fine. In a vacuum, that's a smart play against a bad opponent. But when thin skinned Brian did the "I'm a great coach, I'm an elite play caller" you're inviting the criticism. Unwarranted or not, within the context of the game.

I know you probably don't have time or trust to run double moves or layers backed up against your own goal line, but there are other options beyond that same Pickens slant they run so much. An elite play caller would know that.

If you’re going to be conservative and run on third. Then you should have also ran on second. Because even a moron knows that they would be attacking the slant pass.

Agreed...well said.

I forgot to mention this last night, but it looks like Barham was benched because he barely saw the field until late in the game last night.

That's disappointing and that's a guy that I think is worth allowing the growing pains for, but obviously they saw something on film that they thought was too much of a liability.

It's clear that they thought James was a better option at ILB than he was last night which is why the former started. In a vacuum, I don't necessarily have a problem with this because the only game where Barham really stood out at MLB was the Ravens game.

However, the bigger issue for me is that this is yet another example of how we're not using our personnel to their strengths. Barham is tailor-made to be a SAM. He has all the physical traits of a run stuffing, downhill physical player. And that's the kind of guy you want at the strong side position.

And yet damn near every time he's been on the field, he plays at ILB or at the weak side, and I just don't get it.

I don't want them to stunt his growth so I really hope he starts getting reps again next week and he's played at spots that tailor to his strengths.

I certainly hope this is not what it looks like going forward!

49 out of 56 snaps at the nickel is just stupid.

Again, Parker is lost. The way he's using some of these players is just criminal.

With our best CBs healthy, Downs needs to be playing much less at the nickel and more as a true S or as a box playmaker.

It's not the worst thing in the world if he has his snaps scaled back into like the 30-40% range, the problem will be if they straight up bench him and barely play him at all.

Even though the Eagles were basically playing a backup offense, their defense is almost perfectly healthy and our offense deserves an immense amount of credit for how they played.

Scored on 7 of 9 drives, basically unstoppable all game, the best rushing performance we've seen in years and against a team with an elite interior DL.

It shows what they're capable of when they're focused, aren't high on their own supply and talking all this "GOTI" bullshit, and when the playcaller is shamed into being more pragmatic with his approach. I worry that Williams is getting run down because he doesn't look as shifty as he did last year and we don't have much behind him, but that's another problem for another day.

The Eagles defense isn't quite what it was in the last year or two but it's still a good to very good unit and they were just completely obliterated in every facet.

But it's a 34, only two ILB spots.

I don't know why they did it either, is Barham not fast enough to cover the ground he needs to? Hope not, because to me, James just looks too light out there.

Probably it's just a young player who maybe got a bit overwhelmed by things and needed a little break. Overall I'm not worried about Barham.

Still think everything would be different with a better, more experienced DC. This guy is here to teach Fangio's system, and wasn't flexible enough to adapt enough to the talent he has available.

I think it showed in the run defense. Maybe they just assumed the Eagles couldn't run the ball.

It's also just partially a result of Overshown being healthy. You'd think Overshown next to Barham would be about a perfect duo. But they don't seem to like that idea for some reason.

I think Dak is hurt. That one deep attempt looked Babe bad.

I mean he is definitely sore. I'm guessing it's a rib thing. At one point he got hit in the ribs last night, and it didn't look particularly bad but you could see him sort of in pain and grabbing in the chest area. The TD passes were about as perfect as you can get. But some other throws like you mentioned just looked bad.

Special player, not that far off Parsons and he even might be slightly better when you consider the all around game, the only issue is that our defense is still a dysfunctional mess in large part.

Trading for him is one of the few things they've done right defensively in the last few years.
You would think with him, Clark, and Og on the DL our run D would be not horrific. Unless Clark has really fallen off which is maybe why we're seeing more of some guy named Garcia.

Also, the LBers are just fucking awful at it.

I hope people can appreciate that this version of the Eagles from the last 4-5 years is dead and gone.

Barkley is cooked, their WR talent is maybe above average, their OL has fallen apart and will likely get worse in the next year or two with Dickerson rumored to be considering retirement last offseason and Mailata openly musing about retirement.

Defensively they obviously have some nice young pieces but they're also going to lose a number of guys on rookie deals in the next year or two because they have big deferred cap hits coming from Lane Johnson retiring and a few of their other aging contracts (Goedert, Baun). Not to mention the non-factor QB with several years remaining on his deal.

In the next two years the vast majority of their young (and currently cheap) defensive players are up for new deals in DeJean, Mitchell, Ojomo, Hunt and Nolan Smith, they'll lose 2-3 of them. They just traded two 3's and gave Jonathan Greenard a 4/96 deal, imagine how pissed we'd be if we gave up two 3's instead of a 4 for Gary and gave him a 4/96 deal instead of 2/32.

There's also a very good chance that their 1st rounder from last year is a bust in Jihaad Campbell. I'm not ready to say Lemon will be a bust but he certainly doesn't look overly promising, especially when Smith isn't really a true WR1 himself.

And there's no chance Howie can pull the same trick with Hurts now that he pulled with Wentz with the blood clot situation.

This honestly should've happened sooner but taking a risk on Barkley and having him go off for a one-off, all-time type season gave them a huge bounce in 2024.

The only hope that they're even somewhat relevant in the next 2 years or so is if Roseman takes a big swing on a QB with their incoming top 5-10 pick and hits on it, but I'm skeptical they make a move like that with the Hurts situation.

Yea, I've noticed the DL getting good penetration a bunch of times this year and the RB will just kind of dodge around it and find an open gap. Normally when you see that sort of penetration in other games you have players flying in to finish it off for a TFL or tackle for a short gain, with us you consistently see it turning into 4-5 yard gains.

The huge run to start the second half of the Tampa game was a perfect example, Williams drove his blocker 1-2 yards into the backfield and nearly into the lap of the RB, but there wasn't anybody flying in to finish the play when Irving slowed his momentum.

That tells me the back 7, or maybe the edge rushers, are mostly to blame.
