2026 Season | Week 6 | Gameday Chatter Thread | Cowboys @ Packers | 10/18/2026

Yeah, if you would have said that this defense only gave up 23 points for the entire game, every single one of us would have signed that deal beforehand without knowing what our offense would score.

The front 7 was significantly better yesterday and the run defense was also very good.

Yesterday is all we were hoping for this defense to be -- bend but don't break.

And yet it's still not good enough because we literally have the worst coaching staff in the entire league.

That's because our pass defense is horrible.

The front 7 played their best game of the season last night but we're so bad in pass defense this season that it didn't even matter.
Maybe your explosive first round rookie edge rusher shouldn't be 25 yards down the field defending end zone passes?

Just a crazy ass thought.

Or make it at home. I can't remember the last time I bought a coffee from a coffee place.
Coffee at home is the best way to go, especially if you have some outstanding coffee like I do.

:art

The only time I buy coffee when I'm out is usually when I'm out of town. Otherwise, I just brew some at home and take it with me.

I think Jerry talks on Tuesdays for the media. Cant wait to hear some nonsense that only an 8 year old could come up with.
I read on Twitter that he already cancelled for this week so unfortunately, we won't get to hear his thoughts on that coaching disaster from last night.

And before anybody gets excited, he cancelled before last night's game, so it's not like he did it out of anger.

I mean, the b-word is in play here. The guy looks lost and he’s making literally zero plays in any phase of the game.

The Cowboys should have fucking cut Cobie Durant to let Downs have 2. Choosing 13 sealed his karmic doom as a disappointment. Who the fuck chooses an unlucky number?

I think Downs is just a symptom of Parker being incompetent.

The idea never should've been that he's a straight up slot CB playing a bunch of man against the other team's best WR's. The idea of the "big nickel" was always predicated on being a predominantly zone team, having a guy who could handle zone responsibilities in the middle of the field while also crashing down against the run physically.

The whole philosophy of Parker's coverage scheme has been compromised, either due to injuries or because he's just a doofus amateur, so now he's just trying to find something that works and we have a safety trying to operate as a pure slot CB.

Most of the catches he's giving up are coming out of man coverage as a slot CB, that never should've been the plan.

Exactly what I've been saying for weeks now.

Him being able to play the slot effectively is a luxury, not something that he should be doing exclusively.

The guy is a Safety -- one known for his intelligence and ability to diagnose plays quickly. By playing him at the nickel 90% of the time, you're effectively removing these two strengths from his game.

What we've witnessed this season through just 5 games from our entire staff is coaching malpractice.

And the reason the "big nickel" stuff makes sense in certain schemes is because you're effectively playing safety, just closer to the LOS in a hybrid box S/slot role.

There's a reason DeJean played that position his first two years and then moved to more traditional safety this year, while still doing some "big nickel" stuff.

Never in a million years would Fangio throw DeJean out there as a pure slot CB playing a bunch of man coverage week in and week out.

Right, and like I said last night during the game, who the fuck spends the 11th pick in the draft on a nickel CB?

We aren't using the guy in the way that allows his best traits to shine -- the same traits that made him such a highly touted prospect to begin with.

Exactly. The entire premise is based on playing zone defense so he's never chasing fast slot WRs 25 yards downfield with no help.

But our idiot players -- over three different DCs now -- for some reason are wholly incapable of leaning zone defense like every other team in football. So you play more man, which blows the entire concept of using Downs properly around the line.

It's a total cluster of the highest order. The next DC needs to be a lot more experienced in adjusting and using his players to their strengths, not just teaching a trendy system.
