2026 Random Cowboys Stuff Thread...

Yep, basically co-DC's as I speculated right after he was hired.

Yeah, that's a weird dynamic. Sounds dysfunctional to me. You need someone to have the final say on defense. But when you set it up like this it feels more like you have two voices that may be contradicting each other and then you're going to have a head coach making the final decisions between two guys on defense. Just sounds like a recipe for absolute disaster.

Especially a wishy washy head coach like ours who really doesn't have any expertise on the defensive side of the ball.

We honestly don't know what Pettine is going to be doing.

He could be Assistant Head Coach of Quality Control for all I know and be focusing his attention on the defense mainly to start. That's a different job than DC

Bottom line is both CP and Schotty want him and have good relationships with him.

Grown men can figure anything out once you have that trust

I just want to see a difference on the field

Schotty said today that Pettine would be mostly grinding in the film room and wouldn't be on the practice field, though he was always welcome there.

I would guess he's going to try first staying in the background as much as possible so as not to upstage Parker. You know how these coaches are about helping young guys along in their careers.

The question is if things don't get any better after a couple of weeks... that's when I think they might force him into a more active role.

If we lose the next two games and look bad doing it, are coaches getting fired? Re-assigned to different roles?

With all this dysfunctional hierarchy and pressure, seems like it might hit the fan.

At the end of the day if that happens it's a lost season. I honestly think Schotty should be the one on that chopping block. But that will never happen.

I don't think that's true.

I think it's the last thing Jerry wants to do, but if the season ends in total disaster and we finish with 5 wins?

I think that's enough to clean house, especially after how aggressive he was (compared to recent years) and acquiring players for the team to make it better.

However, anything around .500 and Schotty is 100% coming back.

Yeah I was talking a midseason firing.

At the end of the season? Totally different story. I think Jerry is starting to feel a bit desperate in life.

I think not having our first round pick makes it more likely Schotty would be fired. If things really tailspin into a disaster, fans won't even have the super high draft pick to look forward to.

Until I see otherwise, booth, no booth, it's just moving chairs on a sinking ship.

I'm willing to write off the Tampa game as an illness thing if this team comes out and shows something against the Packers. But my heart tells me that's not really happening.
