2026 College Football Chatter

24 is a tad high but I am in favor. The more the better.

Once they went to a playoff format it created a bit of a problem with some of the lesser bowl games being pretty irrelevant.

The playoff format is the obvious right thing to do generally, and once you do that you should go all in and include as many games as is feasible.

To me 16 was the magic number. But I appreciate the playoffs so much more then some dumbasses deciding Alabama and Ohio State should just be in a National Championship because they are the best. (According to those dumbasses)

Everyone used to say, the regular season was the playoff, no it wasn't. Teams with losses made the championship. It was just the big name programs with losses that got to do that. Now the regular season matters and their is a real playoff. Not some fraud claim that the regular season was just some big playoff.

Anyway, is 24 a little big to me? Slightly. But it's not like you're going to be letting 7-6 teams into the playoffs. It's still going to be probably only teams with 3 losses or so? Maybe an occasional 4 (Which is why it feels slightly too big)

I'm getting more and more pumped for this. I think it'll be pretty fun.

Yeah I don't hate the idea.

Like you said, the playoffs (which were LONG overdue and absolutely the right thing to do) made the Bowl games outside of them pretty much irrelevant.

This is way to reintroduce importance them.

Personally, I'm with @Cowboysrock55 in that I thought 16 was the sweet spot. But I don't hate the idea of 24.

The key is not to go higher than this. This needs to absolutely be the final number from here until you end of time.

We are going to end up with a national championship game in March.

Nah.... No more taking an entire month of dead time from November to late December like they used to, is all.

You can play your playoffs in December into January and you're good to go.

College Football playoff games during Xmas week when I'm already off work?

YES PLEASE.

If the playoffs started today:

24-team CFP format summary: Top 8 seeds get first-round byes; seeds 9-16 host first-round games vs. 17-24 (on-campus); Power 4 champs + top Group of 6 get autos with 19 at-larges, per reports on the 2027 proposal.

• First-round byes (seeds 1-8 based on current AP rankings): 1. Georgia, 2. Notre Dame, 3. Miami, 4. Ohio State, 5. Indiana, 6. Alabama, 7. Texas, 8. BYU.

• First-round matchups (9-16 host): 9. Ole Miss vs. 24. SMU; 10. Texas Tech vs. 23. Boise State; 11. Utah vs. 22. LSU; 12. UCLA vs. 21. Wake Forest; 13. Missouri vs. 20. Houston; 14. Tennessee vs. 19. USC; 15. Kentucky vs. 18. Oklahoma State; 16. Mississippi State vs. 17. Iowa.

8 first round byes seems ridiculous

You're kidding yourself if you think they will stop at 24.

So now it's going to be like in the NFL, teams resting players, etc the last week or two because they're already in and losing won't even matter.

Great.

If you're gonna do this, then you HAVE to finally go with standardized schedules for everyone.

No more some teams play conference championship games and some don't.

No more some teams get 7 home games and another gets 5.

If you're going to 24 teams, everyone has to be on the same playing teams during the regular season.

24 teams is comical, literally no point anymore to the regular season for the most part except I guess for bye purposes and the last few spots.

But does anybody really give a shit about some random Missouri/Kentucky matchup to decide who gets in as the 24 seed in November?

There will be many of these unintended consequences.
