2026 Season | Week 5 | Gameday Chatter Thread | Bucs @ Cowboys | 10/08/2026

The only hope is that they either crater or Jerry isn't as patient because he doesn't have as much history with Schottenheimer as he did with Garrett.
He definitely won't be as patient. He doesn't have the personal history and love that he had for Family Portrait Boy.

Only question is, does he actually try to hire the best coach, or someone he and Dak are comfortable with? We know the answer.

Dak's performance yesterday was an anomaly, traditionally he beats most blitzes.

What hurt most was staying cold on the sidelines while the defense let Tampa eat almost the entire the clock with no turnovers.

THAT's what's really coming, TOP ball vs our inept defense. Fucking a-hole John Harbaugh showed everyone the blueprint in game one.

Dak is fantastic against the blitz so I don't think him not beating it yesterday was so much on him was it was our inept coaching.

And that pathetic record would only land us one high 2nd round pick.

Tanking isn't even an option
Its only an option of GB is as well

Bowles not kicking the FG was historically awful, but let's not pretend the decision to go for two there isn't running neck and neck with Bowles decision.

Both were dumb.

I'm just saying Bowles ends the game by kicking a FG there to change it to a 3 score game with 8 minutes left.

On the other hand even though we missed the 2 point conversion we still had a realistic shot.

That's the difference in the two decisions and it's why I think Bowles' decision was worse. I agree both were dumb.

That offensive cratering was absolutely not on Dak. Like you said, he normally makes teams pay for blitzing him. So, two things are to blame. The schedule, and our retarded HC.

Oh, I agree that Bowles' decision was worse. Don't get me wrong. That's a coaching decision a gimp coach in peewee football could make. I was just saying going for 2 was damn near as bad. Basically, we are saying the same thing, so I'll shut up now.

I'm talking about it in the context of getting rid of him after this season though. I'd be shocked if that happened, but we're at a point now that any additional year given to Schottenheimer is just a complete disaster, might as well not even play the season.

He's obviously not going to get a decade here, or even a 4th year if he starts off with three straight non-playoff seasons, but I think he's at least 75% to be back next year unless things crater at like 5-12.

I say if we go like 7-10, he's gone. I still think there's an excellent chance Jerry got the first time, happy-to-be-here coach to sign a cheap deal, maybe even with outs.

I'm usually pretty optimistic when it comes to Cowboys games (I watch them in the context of knowing how the culture is), but that was really bad.

So far I've been pretty lenient on Parker because I hadn't seen glaring scheme issues, but last night was different. On that third and 21, his defensive call was some kind of midrange prevent? What the hell was that? Man on the outside, middle zone -some weird cushion defense at the sticks that I don't understand. Also Bland fell down playing the man on the outside I think, he also fell down on the long pass. Then he dropped a sure interception, which probably didn't matter because he would've fell down again. Also the penalties on defense are atrocious. Cost us the game early, I believe.

I'm not going into the offensive play calling too much but Schott still gets cute, still doesn't run when he should, still calls plays where everyone is aligned tight and then throws to a double coverered stone hands tight end? WTF is that

I'm not diving any deeper, this game is going in the trash. Coaching trash, players trash.

I'm not optimistic any more about the coaching or this team, Gonna have to win like 8 in a row to pull me back in for this season.

Just a reminder that we haven't had a legitimate HC search in basically 20 years.

They elevated Garrett from interim in 2011.

In 2020 they interviewed McCarthy and a token interview with Marvin f'ing Lewis. McCarthy ended up being a solid choice but the process is ridiculous.

And then 2025 was the height of ridiculousness. After dicking around with McCarthy and trying to strongarm him into some sort of cheap contract they interviewed Leslie Frazier and Deion before settling on the closest thing to McCarthy on McCarthy's staff in Schottenheimer.

Every year every team with an opening conducts a search in more or less the same manner, interviewing more or less the same candidates, but not these morons.

No way. Bowles’ decision was in a class of its own. Even analytics said take the FG.

If the FG only provided a 16- point lead, it would’ve been dumb. Foregoing a 3-possession lead is in a different stratosphere.

I think what we’re seeing is how critically important linebacker quality is with this kinda defensive scheme where you base is essentially 3 DTs out there most plays.

For anyone old enough to remember those electric football games for kids. That's our defensive backs. The field vibrating and the players moving in circles, like brainless robots.
