On the other hand Ballmer is probably the richest owner in the NBA which in theory means a lot of influence.

More takeaways from ESPN's BPI projections

This is the first season of the new anti-tanking rules. The updated draft lottery format means that really bad teams actually have a lower chance to get the No. 1 pick compared to merely ordinary bad teams. We put the new lottery rules into the BPI's system and let it project what expected picks teams would get. The big news out of that is -- and this is a little depressing for fans of competitive balance -- the Thunder have the third-best odds of getting the No. 1 pick in the 2027 draft. Fortunately, it's only at about 11%, but they have about a 75% chance of getting a top-10 pick.

ESPN Analytics built this cool simulation of the lottery if you like watching balls bounce around to determine the fate of a franchise. I did it once just as I was writing the previous paragraph, and it landed the Thunder the No. 3 pick. I had to remind myself this was just a simulation and not reality.

@Cujo I don't think I ever asked, but how did you become a Thunder fan?

The team in Texas who I used to root for (I will not say their name) traded a generational player and got literally peanuts for him and I immediately disavowed them forever.

Ah, so a relatively recent fan... cool. You chose well.

Funny thing is, when I chose OKC, I had no idea how good they were doing because I don't pay attention until playoff time. They had the best record in the league. I will admit it was a bandwagony move but I'm sticking with them.

You owe it to yourself to follow at least one team with a real GM. Even one of the very best.

What a fucking relief it is to have a front office who is 5 moves ahead of everyone else and has picks falling out of their ass despite having one of the best teams in the league, year in and year out.
