Speed making it has to be biggest surprise. I guess Wino loved him on special teams.

Hope we get Leverett back on the PS. Like Simp said, maybe that's already worked out.

Everybody practices.. everybody learns …the problem is none of his education he’s absorbed has shown up in real game action … After this horrendous showing all preseason long against inferior competition should have been the signal to this team to let him go… maybe Jerry likes his locker room presence :unsure

At this point he is here because Parker wanted him here. No one left on defense helped draft this guy. So if Parker wants him around I'll just have to trust he knows what he is doing. Of course he could be gone tomorrow. The 53 isn't likely finalized. We will probably see a couple more moves in the next day or two.

I'd rather have Moore too but either one would be an upgrade to our depth. I don't get all the consternation about CB though, I think it comes from people not understanding that Downs is our slot CB.

If Bland and Durant are your "outside" CB's and Downs is your slot, Revel is effectively your 4th CB who is only playing if there's an injury. If something happens to Bland or Durant, Revel will step in, if something happens to Downs you can slide Durant into the slot with Revel outside, or possibly even Thompson into the slot with Durant staying outside.

The fact that Parker's scheme doesn't need a traditional slot CB is one of the reasons why we have so many safeties, because Hooker and Locke could easily be your traditional safeties while Thompson plays in a slot-like position.

I get wanting to upgrade the depth, because it shouldn't be expensive so why not?

But it's certainly not a big need.

I can't speak for Simp, but me personally, I am happy with what we have done on defense with what resources we had available. Asking for a shutdown corner on top of it all feels a bit... greedy.

Well you're not signing that guy. Your best chance at that is probably hoping Revel becomes that guy as the season goes on. He has first round corner pedigree. I think Bland will be solid. I think Durant will be a feisty play maker. Revel is kind of the unknown who looks like he is starting to tap some of that first round potential but we have no idea how far he will actually climb.

That was part of the finishing Jimmy added in 1992 drafting Kevin Smith and trading for Charles Haley. We more closely resemble the 1991 squad. Still a nice place to be.

I hear you, but the thought began with finding CB depth and I agree depth is not what we need

Which brought me to what we do need

In a way you're hoping Downs is that guy. Not in the lock down corner sense. But in this defense, the role he will be playing, stopper is exactly what I'd say we traded up in the draft to get. Be it as a safety or a slot corner or where ever we put him.
