I still hold out some hope for Guyton.

Not saying he's ever going to be a star, but, could he just be a Doug Free level starter?

I also look back at that draft and I don't see any obvious choices that we should have taken. I mean, you get like Cooper DeJean at 40, but that's 11 picks later and it's not like DeJean was seen as some clear cut guy that should have been in the first, that's a development success, not a scouting success.

Maybe, but when the problem is in the head I think it's more of an issue than pure talent/technique concerns. Obviously it's just my opinion, but he gives off similar vibes to guys like Mazi and Taco who were just flaky chuckleheads.

You're right about that class being weak in the range that we picked, Barton would've been an obviously better pick but the fact that we traded back and got Beebe kind of nullifies that.

It’s clear Shelton is a guy they have hopes for, for the future. Again, it’s not often you see the Cowboys able to draft a mid round OT and see him come in and be capable of starting right away. We have had some luck at center with those types with Beebe and Biadasz, but tackle always seems to need a bigger investment. Hopefully Shelton pans out and pans out quick, if he was a hit capable of seizing a starting job right away that would be excellent. But at this point the number of hits I’m hoping for from our draft class is beginning to seem unrealistic (Downs a star right away, Lawrence a 6-7 sack guy, Barham a rotational quality middle LB early on who has an impact situationally as a rookie, and Shelton a starting OT as a rookie…. Getting pretty wishful).

All of those seem reasonable except Shelton, who looks like he needs a needs a year in the weight room. I don't think the first three are too wishful at all.

Shotty the other day said that Guyton was going to have to work harder to earn more time on the field. I think it's fairly obvious they aren't counting on him this year, and if he pans out, then that's just a bonus.

I think it's 50/50 that they start the year with Smith at LT and Bass at LG.
 
I think it might be 50/50 that Guyton is the starter or not, but if he's not I think it'll be Thomas or even Shelton. I think there's only a very small chance they move Smith.
