The 70s & 80s Nostalgia Thread...

We never had one of these. Mom made popcorn in a pot.

Time for a CSB...

When I came back to VA in 1988 I checked onboard the Saratoga which was in the shipyard in Portsmouth, going through an 18-month maintenance period. Many of us who worked in sea-intensive jobs (rates) were farmed out to different divisions around the ship to augment the manpower dedicated to various things... some to clean ventilation systems, some to paint spaces, etc. I was sent to firewatch division which consisted of sitting and watching a civilian shipyard welder do his thing all day (half the day he would nap, but whatever).

So this one old guy told me around the middle of the day that he was taking a break and to go eat my dinner. I said "Dinner? Don't you mean lunch?" He said "That's not what we good ol' boys call it here in Virginia, you must not be from around here." I said "Dinner is what we eat at night, what do you call what you eat at night?" He said, "Supper, you fool."

Who calls lunch, "dinner"?

I always assumed anyone who called the last meal "supper" lived on a farm in a 1930s time warp. You also called your wife "Ma" and pronounced it "maw".

That's what the older country boys who worked for my dad called it, too. Lunch was dinner.

We called the night meal supper, too. But I'd never heard "dinner" to mean lunch.

I almost broke the joystick multiple times.

I had one of these but I don't remember it being called Super Toe. Maybe it was and I'm misremembering.
