2026 Random Cowboys Stuff Thread...

Yea, I'd say over the last 20 years we've had probably at least 3-4 SB caliber teams, this could be another one if Guyton and Blue pan out, assuming the defense is roughly average and not either absolute shit or somehow top 5-10.

Obviously they haven't made it there for various reasons, mostly Jerry.

I'd say the season hinges much more on what happens with the defense than anything to do with Blue or Guyton.

The defense in general, sure, but I'm calling them out as individuals. I also feel pretty confident the defense will be somewhere around average one way or the other, unless there's a huge rash of injuries.

I'd be very surprised if they were either bottom tier or anywhere near elite.

I'm hopeful of the defense but less than convinced at this point.

One reason I feel confident in the defense to at least be average is we've very quietly added a number of external players in just the last 6-12 months who have been very good individually elsewhere, or were solid starters on good teams/defenses.

Quinnen, Clark, Gary, Jalen Thompson, Durant, Winters, Locke.

That's 6-7 starters who have absolutely no history here for the most part, then you throw in Downs who should be one of the top 5ish safeties in the league as a rookie.

Unless Parker is a complete lemon or we have a massive rash of injuries the defense will be competent enough, which is why I think guys like Blue and Guyton are massive unknowns who could represent big upsides if they get their shit together.

Basically I think if both of those guys get their heads out of their asses our offense could be the best in the league, I don't think there are 1-2 guys on defense who could swing us from average to elite, or from average down to shit if they suck.

Here at work there is this guy that I had my doubts about. He told me he was a Cowboys fan and as young as he is I figured he was one of those kind of fans. But, after talking to him more about it, he is as in tune with the team as we are. It's going to be nice to have that kind of person to talk to about the team outside of this board. He is the first one I have found outside of my cousin who owns this agency.
You…you are two timing us, boy?

It depends on a lot of things.

How long it takes the defense with a lot of moving parts to gel is one.

The offense can be derailed by a key injury, as that is the great equalizer. I do not trust Blue any further than I could throw him if something occurs with Williams.

Schottenheimer literally said that they didn't practice much around ball security in the lead up to last season, so that would explain the ridiculous number of soft fumbles our skill position players gave up throughout the year.

That's one of the under the radar things I'll be keeping an eye on early in the year, correcting mistakes like that is something every good, let alone great HC, would be on top of immediately. If these guys are still dicking around with these weak fumbles all year I think it's an indication that Schottenheimer isn't quite HC material.
