2026 Random Cowboys Stuff Thread...

You couldn't read that Gary was over 275 pounds? It's a big reason to get excited (no pun intended).

We need a front seven that fucking hits and sacks people.

I'm tired of the undersized front trend Jimmy started and Jerry copied. Jimmy understood that it only works with special players like Haley and Lett and with waves of depth.

Bill Parcells understood it, and even though he was barely here long enough to bring in the players we needed, he was able to transform the front into something a lot more physical, though his NT Jason Ferguson got hurt and left us vulnerable for years as Wade and Jerry could never refill the spot.

Canty, Ware, Ellis, and Spencer had size and power, but we lacked more teeth in the middle (Ayodele and James at ILB--ugh and Ratliff was undersized and rigidly out of position at NT--ouch).

Greg Ellis was oversized and Parcells recast him into the same spot Gary occupies now.

Parcells got 4.5, 12.5, and 8 sacks out of Ellis in that position from 2006-2008, and even though Parcells left before those highly productive second and third seasons, he was the architect who anticipated the production when he projected Ellis into that role.

Somehow in the early 2010's when we shifted back to a 4-3 ( a good move) we also returned to the undersized DT philosophy (poor execution).

Thank God it's all finally getting fixed now over 15 years later, really 25 years later if you count the wasted late 90's

It's not that it only worked with special players and waves of depth, it's that it was a different league back then. We were ahead of the curve in realizing how important team speed on defense was (just like we were ahead of the curve on using size at receiver).

But the league has evolved since then. Small and fast can beat big and slow, but big and fast beats small and fast.

The league has big and fast players nowadays, not just big players.

Yeah, the only thing really different about Jimmy's philosophy was apparently using quarters coverage so much before that was a thing. The rest was mostly him knowing these guys from college and drafting so well. The ol' "not the Xs and Os but the Jimmys and Joes."

Broaddus claiming a lot of people with the team said paying Micah was a bad idea, and Jerry was actually the last one who really wanted to keep him. (Should start at the right spot.)

There's been smoke to that effect even before they traded him, so it wouldn't be surprising.

I wouldn't even be shocked if Stephen/McClay were coordinating behind the scenes to try to slow Jerry's roll with an extension unless it was on very favorable terms, like a 5 year deal at 40/year, which is what was rumored as the structure that Jerry thought they had agreed to.

Thank God we have Clarence getting the scoops for us.
