2026 Cowboys Draft Chatter Thread

Is it just me or is this a really weird draft class? Shit at QB, shit at OL, really top heavy for defense, insanely deep at CB, outside of the top 3 or so, not much at S. Maybe it's just a really weak class overall.

It is a really weird class. I think its kind of part covid and part NIL mixing together to add to it. An unusually large amount of 25 year old prospects. Guys who were in college for 6 years.

But otherwise every year a draft has its strengths and weaknesses. For example its a bad year to need a top of the first OT. But I think you could see a bunch of OTs go between 15 and 32. Freeling, Proctor, Lomu, Miller and Iheanachor could all go in the first. But to me those are all 20-32 type talents. Freeling is a Guyton level prospect in my opinion.

But then after that group OT gets pretty gross. Great safety class. Great corner class. I actually kind of like the WR class. There are also a ton of pass rushers of all flavors.

Feels like a NT heavy class but a really weak 3 tech class.

I think its an excellent LBer class to be honest.

RB, very weak which feels a bit funny to say when the RB class has a guy who is a top 10 lock. But it is thin after that.

I was choosing between the given options. I don't want Hood at 20. I think there are better options. Like Methusidor. Hell, I would take JRod there before Hood, tbh.

I like Chris Johnson better at 20 assuming both are there. Better fit and better player in my opinion. At least if we are talking corner. I have better DEs too.

Been thinking about it, and I think if we are looking to trade up, the Saints might be the prime place to do it. I think with the Giants getting that tenth pick, it could help us. I really think that they will now go Carnell Tate at 5. They need that 2nd WR, and with them getting 10, that is where they'll go defense.

So, looking at it that way I could see it going something like this:

1. Mendoza- Raiders
2. Reese- Jets
3. Bailey- Cardinals
4. Love- Titans
5. Tate- Giants
6. Mauigoa- Browns
7. Delane/Downs- Skins

The Browns are a wild card, and could take either Styles or Bains. But I think they'll go Oline or WR to help out their make-a-wish candidate at QB. And since the Giants took the top WR, they'll go Oline. Now, even if they took one of Styles or Bain, I believe the other would still be there at 8 because... Everything I've been hearing/reading says the skins are enamored with either of the defensive backs. Hell, draft Downs and give him Sean Taylor's number. The mouth breathing frenzy will be on.

So, say Browns do take one of either Styles or Bain. The other is still there at 8 to trade up for if we would like. Or... If they both are still there as in the above scenario, we could open talks with both the Saints and the Chiefs to see which would give the best deal. If it's the Chiefs, great. Take it. Even if the Saints take one, the other is still there. If the Saints go elsewhere, then we have our pick of the two.

Two possible trade scenarios-

Saints get 12 and 20. We get 8, 42, and 73. Which could turn out to be something like Bain, Rodriguez, top CB left. Or Styles, Lawrence, top CB left.

Chiefs get 12 and 20. We get 9, 29, 109 OR 9, 40, 74. Pretty much same scenarios as above. All these trade scenarios have pretty even compensation numbers. With Dallas giving slightly extra which is normal for the team wanting to move up.

Or hell. Maybe they work out something where we keep 20. But I would be perfectly fine with the trades above.

Now, after saying all that, somebody else trading up could blow this all to shit, and I've just wasted the last 20 minutes of my life.

God damn it.

I'm cool with it in a vacuum but assuming no trade down it'd be really tough to also add an impact LB and Edge with basically 92 and 112.
I know it's probably a long shot, but I've been seeing Golday making it to 92 in a few "expert" mocks. And guys like Moore, Height, Barham, Crawford at 112.

From our perspective maybe that's true, but I don't think the Saints have a history of trading down in the first. They usually seem to want to trade up. I don't see that trend changing this year.

It's why I really would like to trade down somewhere. But yeah if I had to choose my guess is our options at either CB or safety will be better than LB or Edge in the 3rd and 4th.

It's also why I want to trade down. I think it's unlikely that a LBer will make sense at 12 or 20 (Styles gone before 12). But I think the second to even early third would be a prime spot for a LBer. The whole draft just works better at matching BPA with need if we can move one of our first round picks down.

I actually think that is prime real estate for a CB, as well.

Would you trade pick 20 let's say for the Jets picks 33 and 44?

I know it feels like why would the Jets do that but they have a ton of picks. And if they did like a certain QB that might be a prime spot to move up and get him. Plus that would give them 3 first round picks. Seems like they could do some serious rebuilding with that.
