Quick poll, what do you guys think of Downs?

I've always thought there was a good chance he falls to us, despite the "best player in the draft" opinions from many "gurus."

But wonder what y'all think.

Yea I think there's a good chance just because of what we've seen historically. Only takes one team though so who knows.

How good do you think he'll be, though?

Probably a Pro Bowler but not someone who elevates an entire defense. He should be in the conversation with guys like Hamilton, James, Emmanwori, etc. by his second year, but even those guys aren't elevating lesser talent on their own.

That's probably why they drop more than they should every year.

Yeah, safety is a finishing piece, not foundational.

If we draft Downs at 12, we must trade down at 20 and hope someone like Tyson has fallen so another team will be willing to jump up.

There are starters to be found with those extra picks but defensively no one at 20 more compelling than someone at 30

If Mesidor is there, we prolly take him over Denis-Sutton or Jacas plus another later pick, but it’s close. Trade down gives us lots of CB and EDGE options.

If we get Downs and Mesidor, good for us, but LB’s will be gone by 92 and the best CBs will be picked over. There will be some CBs left given the depth, but we need two of them

I am very against trading up for Downs. If he dropped to 12 and we took him, I would like the pick but maybe not high-five, shotgun a beer “like it.”

I’d have to see what the board looked like at that point. Maybe a trade down from 12 could still work and we pick up another high pick. (Assuming a trade is available)

Anyway, yes I’d be fine and happy with picking him at 12 but would still feel like he’s not a player that transforms the defense. Maybe he is, but we will have to see it.

So I don't know that he elevates the entire defense but I do think he could elevate the entire secondary. I've heard a lot about the guy being intelligent and a leader and I definitely think he is a guy in the secondary that can process everything and help communication among the secondary. I think he will make everyone better because of that.

But he isn't an Ed Reed that can basically eliminate any deep ball throws and force an offense into a short passing game. That type of impact makes the entire defense better because it makes the entire offense more predictable.

The thing about Downs is that he is versatile and is safe from a character risk.

No question he fits Parker perfectly in terms of a slot/safety hybrid. And his charecter will have him as a big leader on the defense in no time. Absolutely a safe pick. He fills a starter role here probably for the next decade even if he isn't necessarily what one would classify as a game changer. But most real game changers are pass rushers.

The Beast is out! If you would like a copy of it PM me your email address and I will shoot it to you. Please be patient as I have some family stuff today so I may be a bit delayed in getting it to you.

If you will be here by 8 I can send this morning. After that I don't know when I will be able to send. I have to go to the hospital about 8. My brother went into septic shock and I don't know when I will be back home.

Damn man, don't worry about the Beast. Hope your bro is okay.

Thanks, guys. He coded last night about midnight. They intubated him on the way to the hospital. I have no idea yet how long he laid there coding before the EMS got there. I just hope no damage happened while his heart wasn't beating. They still have him sedated so pray if it's your thing, but please keep my family in your thoughts, regardless.

As soon as my wife gets back home (she had to open her office) we are headed up there. This has been on helluva past 6 months for my family.

Anybody have the link to the printable/PDF version of the Beast?

They changed up the format so it seems a little harder to get to that link.

A few early notes:

1) Arvell Reese his top overall player.

2) Has Jeremiah Love his number two player.

3) Other defenders in top-10 Styles (4), Downs (5), Delane (6), Bailey (7) Bain (9)

4) Has Keldric Faulk above Mesidor

5) Jacob Rodriguez above CJ Allen

6) Chris Johnson as #3 CB (behind Delane and McCoy)

I disagree strongly with 1 and 4.
