I was getting cable installed at my business that morning, specifically so I could watch the draft (fuck the customers). 5 minutes after I tuned in, I saw they were trading out of the pick.

Just so we're clear, that was a terrible joke.
I know, man. You have told that story before. I'm sure it was easily the worst wedding gift you got that day.

Prisco's latest mock has Reese, Bain, Bailey, Styles going 2-5. Then he has Delane, Downs, McCoy going 9-11.

No trade down at 12. Takes R Mason Thomas. Avieon Terrell at 20.

Has Theineman going 30 to the Dolphins.
Prisco was shit even years ago. He is still employed?

That is one of those hate the pick, like the player tho type ones. That said, in the first round, on draft night, I will lose my fucking mind.

That's one of those trade down even for shit value before you reach. Again, I like the player. But absolutely no reason to take him at 12 or 20. Just trade down. Give me a pick in the late first and I'm comfortable.

What I keep thinking about is how Parker described the slot position, supposedly one of the most important in the defense, as needing to "cover like a CB, play the run like a LB and blitz like a safety".

Who does that sound like in this class?

There are several but I think a particular few at the top.

Or he could be saying he has some of that at home which means Jalen Thompson.

Cole Wisniewski.

As an aside, McCoy's agent is Mulugheta, so you tell me if we're going to take him after all the nonsense over the last year.
Good point. That's probably the real reason for the rumors that we aren't interested, not the acl.

Second contract he’d be 30, but his first contract would be nearly the same as a normal rookie.

We went through this with Newman, and he played in Dallas 9 seasons and 15 in the NFL. Easier as a CB, true.

So eight effective prime years. DLaw, played in Dallas 11 years which is what you’d hope for from a high draft pick at the position.

Do we care as much about eight years from now? The difference between signing your own guy to a third contract? Does it matter at that point in this age of free agency that it was the same guy you drafted?

It’s not like there’s a discount

This is the sort of logic I've been trying to work through on Mesidor, I think we can do better at 12 but I'm definitely on board with it if he's there at 20.

After Bailey I'm not sure anybody else in the edge rusher class is clearly better. Reese obviously has way more potential and athletic ability, but he rarely did much pure edge rush in college and got most of his pressure from off ball alignments and moving around the formation. Bain might be a bit better but it's not by a wide margin.

It's not the length of his playing career that concerns me as much as that what you're seeing is a 25 year old fully developed guy beating up on 19 year old kids on the football field. It almost feels like you're not comparing apples to apples when you're talking about a 21 year old vs a 25 year old. Especially at a position that is so physical and filled with violence. I hope I'm wrong, I just worry that he just is never going to become more than what he is today.

When you normally draft a 21 year old, you expect him to be better by the time he is 25. When you draft a 25 year old, do you expect him to be that much better when he is 29? That's really the question I have. The guy is in his prime years physically.

He just turned 25 a few days ago so he was 24 during the season last year, for the record.
