2026 Cowboys Free Agency Thread…

Oh goody what are the chances we can still get a guy that makes it and defeats the Spagnola Principle?

There will be a JAG coming available at ILB during TC cut downs so it’s not like we’re going forward with James or a late round/UDFA rookie as our starter there, but it’s not looking great barring we land one of the 4-5 starting caliber interior Lb’s.

Williams, Clark, Bland, EZ, Gary, and Thompson are legit NFL starters with Williams being the true stud of the group.

Then come the extreme question marks, Demarvion Overshown and Shavon Revel. These 2023 and 2025 third round picks could be anything from stars to complete non-factors to injured and out. We have no ideas what to expect.

I think Overshown will be above average but not special, now having recovered from two severe injuries. Revel was bad last year, poorly coached, poorly supported, and poorly recovered from his own injury that took him forever to heal from. With Overshown I feel like I can guess, but Revel is a complete, fingers-crossed mystery. Right now James’ ceiling look slow.

Then come the JAGs— everyone else. No one hinting better than average potential. We signed a bunch of new players barely better proven over the complete trash they replaced.

Shemar James had as bad a year as Revel, but with him it wasn’t an injury as much as just being slow and not good to begin with. Maybe it was the coaching, but James was awful. This guy should get churned out before the season starts. I’d start a roster churn guy over James right now and not care. In fact I suspect I might feel even better.

I mostly agree but Durant played more snaps than any CB on the Rams last year and they weren't far off from going to the Super Bowl.

He's nothing amazing exactly but he's a competent starter.

I bet poor Shemar's ears were burning at Ravi underlining just how bad he was...

Not to defend Shemar who just got a new asshole ripped by Ravi but he is 21 years old. He certainly isn't slow. But he wasn't good last year. The mental processing wasn't there at all. The hope with a guy like that is maybe he will become a decent player after a year or two of coaching and developing. He is very young.

I'm not counting on the guy but gosh, people are so quick to throw away a player who doesn't stand out immediately as a rookie.

I would really caution evaluating any of the rookies off of last year. Too hard to determine worth when the scheme was just so damn shitty to begin with.

For those grading LBers on tackle numbers he did get 91 tackles in only 6 starts.

But he wasn't very good. Again he is 21 years old. You expect that he will get better as his body matures. He actually had more tackles than Kenneth Murray though who started 16 games.

Really hoping Revel and James can excise whatever bad or confusing habits were injected last year in favor of what will hopefully be better direction in 2026.

Each played tentatively and out of position way too often for there not to be at least some correlation to bad coaching. But Hell, you'd expect some splash plays even if by accident.

Were I drafting, I'd pretend like they weren't on the roster and I needed to replace them. Then let the competition decide.

Low bar, friend, low bar. That guy was shit awful last year.
