The Outrage Thread

I wonder sometimes if he even believes any of the shit he spews.
Dennis Prager used to say before his accident that one of the great questions he had throughout basically his whole life (college to his 70s) was, how much of what Leftists say do they actually believe? And he was never able to answer the question.

No doubt that they lie - a lot. But they also believe that so much garbage is actually true. So it's hard to say.

I have shared the same question for quite a while myself. As you say it is hard to tell. Just like it's almost impossible to distinguish satire from real life anymore.

Well and it's such an easy lie. I've also never liked the term progressive tax verse regressive tax.

Regressive tax has such a negative connotation. And notice how he says it is "more regressive" which is really just a play on words. It doesn't mean that the tax structure is regressive at all. It just means that the tax structure doesn't hit those with money as hard.

But it's funny, a flat percentage of income is a regressive tax. So if everyone paid lets say 15% of their income in taxes. That's considered regressive. Even though the more money you earn the more taxes you pay. The people making a lot of money would pay a lot more in taxes compared to those who make less. But this is somehow considered the devil because it's "regressive."

Politicians love to use word play to manipulate things to sound one way or another and it's nothing but a deception. And the reality is the tax structure in the United States is intended to confuse the crap out of people and manipulate them. They want to make the 1% earners the bad guys. While some 1% earners are paying a high percentage of their income while other 1% earners are paying almost nothing. They want to villainize the big business who "doesn't pay taxes" but have no concept that when you tax goods along the chain of production you actually just end up with higher prices and people paying more. Taxing businesses to no end isn't going to kill the giant corporations. It's going to kill the little guys who are just trying to save up enough to expand the business and grow.

I think the percentage they believe is actually pretty high.

I think I posted a video here a couple weeks back from a former climate change journalist who eventually walked away from the left. She talked a little about her mentality when she was in the middle of everything. She said there were a few times along the way when she thought what she was saying didn't make sense or match up with the facts, but she just kind of ignored it and plowed ahead anyway because she didn't feel like it was her place to correct things, or something like that.

I suspect that's very common on the left. I think they believe what they're saying generally and anything that doesn't seem to quite line up with reality they just don't acknowledge and it helps keep them willfully and blissfully ignorant.

And the consumers who will always a thousand percent wind up paying the taxes in the end. It's such a simple concept and it baffles that certain people can't seem to grasp it.

They are definitely more sheep-like. It's very important to their egos that they fit in with the expert/credentialed class. Covid was the biggest example of that I've ever seen.

But... I think Prager was talking more about the people at the top promulgating the message than the useful idiots. Do they really believe in these insane ideas, or are they just a way to cloud their desire for power? In that way, I think there's a larger percentage of lies.

Exact same thing as hiking minimum wages. Someone is going to pay the difference in wages and it ain't the big corporations.

Good point. Are there people at the top though? As far as I can tell even someone like Gavin Newsome is a useful idiot.

A lot of the "academic" types push this shit but they're more in the middle than at the top.

And again I don't know what's so hard to understand about it.
We are a country of idiots. I was joking about the pitch clock being the start of us heading down hill as a country but in all seriousness the biggest thing that pushed this country out onto that slope was in 1979 when the Department of Education was formed. I could get into my conspiracy theories as to why it was formed, but my post would end up looking like a Smitty post arguing about CBs and their insignificance. It would be a TLDR rant.

Newsom, AOC, McConnell, Schiff, Waters, Warren, Schumer, Walz, Weingarten, and Pelosi are just a few off the top of my head that are all useful idiots. And they are carefully kept in their place and used when needed. Now, who the person/people are that are using them I have no idea.

Exactly right. And again I don't know what's so hard to understand about it.
I think that's a case of their lying. They have to know that raising the minimum wage to huge levels causes massive inflation and disruption in the labor market. It's so obvious. But they don't care, they just say it to get votes.

And I think Newsom is far above a useful idiot. He may be not the brightest and only there because he looks like a tall mannequin, but he's also not so stupid that he actually believes his state taxes the little guy less than Texas or Florida. That's an outright lie. The useful idiots are the moronic Hollywood types, the blue haired cat ladies, the sophomoric lefty college kids. Newsom is governor of our biggest state and may well become president.

I understand what you mean, but I think the term can be more widely used. Someone is handling the puppet strings and these politicians (including Biden) all wait on the opportunity to serve The Reich.

I'm using it like Lenin and Yuri Bezmenov used it... the ones stupidly spreading the message who will be the first ones put up against the wall and shot once the revolution has succeeded.

Anyway, right on topic for this last page...
