@Genghis Khan , this pitcher give you flashbacks to Mitch Williams?

Dude was wild as shit in and around the strikezone. Didn't know if he was gonna blow one by the batter, spike one, or bang one off the backstop.

He called one very similar a strike earlier in the game, as well. We got lucky, but that's how it goes sometimes.
 
 


"Sweeper" is a new term for me. Is this a new thing? I know I have been out of touch with baseball the last couple of years, but I am just now hearing this term used.

Yes, it's new (last two or three years) and yes it's stupid.

Yes it's newish. Probably a few years old as a term now.

It's basically just a slider. Not like pitchers haven't always thrown them at different speeds.

What I think is stupid is all the young social media baseball fans pick up and promote this stuff because they think it makes them sound like real baseball people on the cutting edge. I saw this firsthand on other topics when I was really following the Rangers closely on 2009-11 or so, but we see it in football and other areas too.
 
I remember a time when you threw a fastball, breaking ball and changeup. Now, there are 45 words to describe the same damn pitch. :lol
