DCC Appreciation Thread...

Me too. When my kids were babies it was tough, sure. But awesome at the same time. I miss it.

I have my second daughter and her husband along with a 3 1/2 year old boy and 1 yr old girl living with me now. They were struggling to save for a house, we had the room... So told them to move in and save money. Been here since last June.

Absolutely love it.

My son and my granddaughter moved in with me at the end of last Summer for the same reasons, I have to say, I love it too. I don’t miss paying for daycare though, which, luckily hasn’t started yet.

Now, don't get me wrong, I am really looking forward to grandkids. But, the boy isn't in a place to have kids yet, so me and his mom are in no way rushing them, but I am looking forward to it. It was one of my biggest motivators to quit drinking.

This is the new way. No longer can the kids afford a home and land anymore.

Luckily, we don't have to pay day care. Daughter wasn't working, but will be starting work soon because I finally got the shift I wanted at work. I work 6am to 2 pm with Wed/Thur off. My wife works from home, has Fri/Sat/Sun off. SIL works from home, Sun/Mon/Tue off. So we will have at least one adult at home not working 7 days a week to watch the grandkids. They were living in Missoula MT, paying 2100 a month for a small 2 bedroom apt, plus utilities. They're hoping to have enough for a down payment on a house in the next year. (I hope they stay forever)

The Stargate project they’re building just outside of town has driven up rent ridiculously. Houses you could get for $1500/month last year are going for $4000 now. It’s fucking insane. Even the apartments have jacked theirs up.

What is that?

What is that?

Key details:

• It’s a multi-building complex (initially 8 buildings, around 4 million square feet total) on over 1,000 acres, with a power capacity scaling up to about 1.2 gigawatts (GW)—enough to support hundreds of thousands of high-end GPUs (e.g., NVIDIA chips) for AI computing.

• Construction started in mid-2024, with the first phases (including some buildings) becoming operational by late 2025. The full campus was expected to wrap up major buildout around mid-2026.

• It’s developed/operated primarily by Crusoe (an AI infrastructure company) on the Lancium Clean Campus, in partnership with Oracle (providing cloud infrastructure) and OpenAI (as a key tenant/user). It’s part of a broader $500 billion+ national Stargate initiative to build out U.S. AI data centers, backed by major players and even highlighted in announcements tied to national AI leadership.

• The site uses advanced setups like liquid cooling for the dense GPU racks, on-site natural gas turbines for reliable power (to supplement grid access via ERCOT), and emphasizes speed of construction to meet AI demands.
