President Trump Thread (Part 2)

Yep, I'm sure Clay Travis had the time or staff to reach back and review interviews with every Olympic athlete interview for the past 30+ years to see if they were asked questions about the President at the time.

Does anyone believe that or do you think Travis is capable of posting clickbait like anyone else?

Yes, they are asked political questions some years but you’d have to go back almost 50 to find them dogging out any other presidents. The last 2 democrat presidents certainly did not face the same type of scrutiny. From Grok:

Several U.S. presidents have faced public criticism or protests from Olympic athletes during politically turbulent eras, though direct parallels to the current situation—where competing athletes express “mixed emotions” about representing the country due to specific administration policies—are relatively rare. The most notable examples include:

Lyndon B. Johnson (1968 Mexico City Summer Olympics)

During the height of the civil rights movement and Vietnam War protests, African American athletes Tommie Smith and John Carlos staged the iconic Black Power salute on the medal podium after the men’s 200-meter race. They raised black-gloved fists during the national anthem to protest racial injustice, poverty, and oppression in the United States. This act directly challenged the U.S. government’s handling of domestic racial issues under President Johnson. The athletes faced severe backlash: They were suspended by the U.S. Olympic Committee and sent home, receiving death threats and career damage upon return. It remains one of the most famous instances of athletes using the Olympic platform to scrutinize their own government’s policies.

Jimmy Carter (1980 Moscow Summer Olympics)

President Carter led a U.S.-led boycott of the Moscow Games in protest of the Soviet invasion of Afghanistan, preventing hundreds of American athletes from competing. Many affected athletes expressed deep frustration and resentment toward Carter’s decision, viewing it as political interference that destroyed their Olympic dreams. Some publicly criticized the move as ineffective and unfair to athletes (e.g., swimmers and track stars who had qualified). However, this differed from the current case because the athletes did not compete in the Games themselves.

Donald Trump (2018 PyeongChang Winter Olympics)

During Trump’s first term, several U.S. athletes openly distanced themselves from the administration. Figure skater Adam Rippon (openly gay) criticized Vice President Mike Pence’s stance on LGBTQ issues and declined a potential meeting. Skier Lindsey Vonn stated she would not accept a White House invitation if she won gold, saying she represented the people of the U.S., “not the president.” Others, like freestyle skier Gus Kenworthy, also voiced opposition. Several medalists later skipped a traditional White House visit. This shares similarities with the 2026 events, including backlash from supporters of the president.

You're welcome to do the Google searches to prove him wrong. If reporters did prompt athletes to slam Clinton, Obama or Biden, it shouldn't be hard to find online.

Do I remember it,no not really. But if this wasn't made to be such a story I wouldn't know its happening either. Does anyone really watch these interviews? Lord knows I do not.

This is very misleading. There was not a poll done comparing the two directly.

For broader context from Rasmussen and aggregated polling data:
  • Biden's average job approval rating over his full term was 48.7%.

    ballotpedia.org
  • Trump's average over his first term (2017-2021) was 40.5%.

    ballotpedia.org
  • As of mid-February 2026 in his second term, Trump's current daily tracking approval stands at around 43% approve / 56% disapprove, with a term-to-date average of 44.5%.

Lol no way 48% of people can say that with a straight face.
Depends on where they took this poll.

Don't underestimate the power of TDS. For instance... My aunt was a conservative all of her life. She moved from western North Dakota to just outside of Minneapolis, Minnesota way back in 1971, and over all these years maybe slid over to moderate conservative. But then something happened... As soon as it looked like Trump was going to win the nomination (his first term) she completely lost her fucking mind. Repeating verbatim what the media told her to believe about him. I can understand not liking the man. But she completely took a 180 on ALL of her core beliefs. It does not matter what it is, if it even remotely looks to be republican, she'll decry it vehemently. And the same is true of the other direction. If the dems claimed that all first born sons were to be sacrificed to Hillary Clinton, she'd argue until she was blue in the face how that would help society. She has completely distanced herself from any family that isn't a hardcore liberal. (remember, she's from western North Dakota, with her family having an oilfield/ranching background. Should tell you a lot) And that includes one of her own sons. Won't have a thing to do with him, his wife, OR their two children. Her own fucking grandchildren. Because of Donald Trump.

Oh, and a funny little side note... She moved from Anoka, Minnesota to Tennessee about 3-4 years ago. Because of the better taxes and less crime. But she's still voting to bring Minnesota policy into Tennessee. :lol

That’s sad, bro. And there are millions like her, unfortunately. They completely lack any objectivity and foam at the mouth when they hear Trump’s name.

Yep, I have a cousin just like that. And, the Friday before the SB I got jumped by a bunch of white savior women for simple saying which halftime show I was going to watch. By the end of the second post aimed at my head I was a white supremacist, a racist, I hate brown people, and I support a pedophile. Guess who the pedophile is? Trump. Nowhere, and I even went back and looked, nowhere is Trump's name even mentioned in the marketing for the TPUSA event. But, she still just tried her damndest to make it about Trump.

The original post I was replying to compared wanting a second choice for a halftime show to wanting your own color's water fountain in the 60s. I started to not even reply but I just couldn't help it.

God, I hated that stop-start "feature" on my dad's truck. First thing I'd immediately do when I drove it was to turn that MF off.

That start/stop feature was optional and wasn’t even included on my’22. It could be bypassed with a button on my wife’s’2020.

Not optional on my dad's truck, and sure, you could turn it off with a button... Every single time you started the damn thing.
