I don't think he'll retire right now, it might be a power play for more money, but he basically saved that idiot Sirianni's job and the fact that he's even thinking about it (and presumably will retire in the next 2ish years) is a big thing.

Supposedly he's "staying involved" with the organization, which sounds like the new OC wants his own assistants but Roseman doesn't want to let Stoutland go completely in case things go completely sideways.

So to answer your question I think it's that toxic.
 


Sounds like "staying with the organization" is a PR way of the Eagles saying he has a contract and they want to hold his rights while he's under contract.

I don't think people realize how big of a deal this is though. Their OL has been the engine of their offense going back arguably to 2017, and certainly over the last 4-5 years. It's the main reason Hurts looks halfway competent at times and let's not forget that Stoutland was one of the main thinkers behind the fag push.

With Barkley basically cooked, Brown at least 50/50 to be traded, a meh OC hire and now this I think their offense is going to be pretty horrible next year. Their defense is going to have to be damn near the best in the league for them to even sniff the playoffs.

Yea, he may stick around another year or two and I'm sure he'll still be a really good DC, but if I was Sirianni I'd start getting antsy because the real braintrust of his operation is starting to crumble.

Maybe he can bring back Steichen or something in a year or two.

Their OC has been a coach for two years, he was an active player in 2023.

What people miss about most of these boy genius types like McVay, Johnson, etc. is that they actually spent 5-7 years coming up through the ranks before becoming an OC. Now it's fashionable to make someone an OC because they were on McVay's PS two years ago and were an assistant QB coach for a year.

It's a joke.

Not to mention, it's more than just bringing a certain system and boom you're successful. If it was that simple everyone would just do it.

The guy matters. Creativity, personality, relatability, adjustability, and so forth matters a lot.

And of course the personnel matters. Even mcvay himself didn't win it all until they upgraded to Stafford.

Anyone can watch a play and run the same play. There is more to it than just play design. It's like having all the correct ingredients to make a meal. But you need someone actually capable of putting all those ingredients together to make the meal.
