2026 Random Cowboys Stuff Thread...

Lol Jesus, if that's the hire it'd be a very bad sign for them.
Why? I'd assume it would only be a position in name only. And it's a guy he's worked with before and is familiar with. One who knows already how McCarthy does stuff. I'm sure Fat Mike will be the one designing and calling the offense.

Because it'd mean McCarthy is in charge of playcalling and the offensive design and I think the game has passed him by to a large extent.

Exactly. McCarthy is running that offense regardless. He just needs a guy he trusts to delegate.

And that's the problem in my opinion.

I don't think McCarthy has his finger on the pulse of the more cutting edge offensive stuff that's going on around the league and he's mostly just going to run his 90's WCO with a few extra bells and whistles.

You kept saying that the entire time that he was winning 12 games a year here. He's way better than you give him credit for.

He'll succeed or fail in Pittsburgh based on his ability to get a quality QB there.

Sure and the offense often fell apart in the playoffs and against better defenses.

His scheme isn't terrible and you can definitely win your fair share of games if you have talent, but I think it leaves a lot to be desired.

What is this based on?

His playcalling was quite good when he took it over from Kellen Moore and it resulted in a record year for CD Lamb.

So you don't think Dak folding in pretty much all of those games had anything to do with that?

If Dak doesn't shit the bed in San Francisco in 2023, we beat them by 2 scores and get to our first NFC in ages.

My opinion of how the offense looked after Moore left. Like I said, I don't think it's a terrible offense compared to what you see around the league but I also think it's lacking compared to what you see from the top offensive coaches like McVay and Shannahan.

I also think the offensive design last year from Schottenheimer was a big upgrade.

Let's not forget that a huge chunk of "offensive" production from 2021-23 came from our defense putting up historic turnover numbers against shitty offenses with Quinn's boom/bust philosophy.

And Moore was the play caller in 2022, the year we played SF in the divisional.

The Cowboys offense was 5th in yards in 2023, 10th in 2022, and 1st in 2021.

That's not just they were put in good position from turnovers generated by the defense.

Those offenses moved the ball A LOT and were legitimately good.
