Severe Weather Thread...

We moved to Georgia in 88 and that winter we had light flurries that resulted in less than 1/4" accumulation.

I was in class when the principal announced over the intercom for all students to report to the bus ramp because of the snow.

You could hardly see anything coming down.

My brother and I tripped tf out because all our life we'd dealt with snow, sometimes a lot of it in IL.

We ended up being out of school for 2 days and din't even get to go sledding.

That's how a lot of schools are now. I don't remember having "snow days" when I was a kid. Of course east Texas doesn't get a ton of snow, so that's part of it. But, it seems like in Lubbock which gets a lot more snow than east Texas, but still nothing consistently problematic, everything shuts down. Even Tech is closing at noon today. But, if we do get snowball throwing snow out of this it will be on like Donkey Kong.

I know it's not southern Canada cold, but our low on Sunday is 3.

A buddy of mine has 12 solar panels on his roof and his December bill was $569 .. which kinda defeats the purpose.
Unless you spend the money on energy storage which is extremely expensive your only option is selling excess back to the grid at pennies on the dollar. In my opinion, they aren't worth the cost for residential use.

I've heard that they nullify your insurance because of possible damage to the roof, but maybe that's a state by state thing.

Kind of sounds like a scam when you put it this way. Basically the energy company gets to reap the benefits of cheap energy that they sell to someone else at a jacked up rate, while they don't have to pay for the infrastructure of the solar panels.

To me almost all of these "green energy solutions" are a scam. They prey on people "wanting to do the right thing" even if it costs them more. They are blinded by either empty promises of a huge savings on energy bills or the myth that it is going to save mother earth. Oh, and don't get me started on the idea of carbon taxes. That is just the government trying to scam you out of even more money under the guise of good environmental stewardship.

Let me explain sustainability. Most people hear that word and they immediately think electric cars and shit. That is only one third of the true definition of sustainability. In the industry it is called the triple bottom line. There are 3 motivators to attain sustainability. Environmental, social and financial. To me the only one of those things that makes sense is the financial cog. But, most of the dirty hippies think that if they drive an electric car they are somehow contributing to the salvation of the planet. If they did any reading at all they would discover that over the life of a vehicle an electric vehicle and what it takes to build and sustain it outputs just as much carbon as a gas powered vehicle. There have been multiple studies done on it. If you truly want an electric vehicle to have any impact at all you have to figure out an alternative to coal powered plants. The answer is nuclear or hydrogen, but the libs hate the idea of nuclear for some reason and no good argument has ever been made against hydrogen, but idiots just assume electricity is the answer even though the electricity they get comes straight from a coal fired plant which puts out a shit ton of CO2. Anyway, that's my free lesson for the day. :geek

I read back through that and realize I didn't even make my point. :lol The point is climate change and this environmental push is nothing but a bullshit trillion dollar Ponzi scheme. And the ones doing it for the earth are just simple-minded morons. So, yes, it's a scam. Carry on.

Oh, and the second point is the word sustainability has been hijacked. Okay, now I'm done. :unsure

Got DAMN it's cold outside.
