New Defensive Coordinator - Christian Parker

That's the one thing that concerns me, if this was settling because they didn't want to compete for Leonhard.

It's something but I don't think Leonhard is a significantly better coaching prospect than Parker so I'm fine taking the bird in hand approach with him.

Ultimately I was a bit worried GB might get Parker and we'd really be left in the lurch, and it appears they thought something similar since I think after our interview he was scheduled to interview with GB.

It looked like we were interested in Leonhard from the start. Maybe Leonhard let it be known that he wasn't as interested in this job. I know the rules state we have to wait until they are out of the playoffs, but we all know that they are in some kind of communication.

If he has stated that he was still weighing his options with other teams instead of saying he wanted our job, then I have no problem with moving on. Hell, we don't even know that he was our first choice to begin with.

I hope it was more about the fact that they saw both guys on a similar level or liked Parker more. But we will never know.

If you thought it was a tossup or close, I'd understand taking the guy you know you can have over the guy you think you could have.

So even we cynics have to admit that this job search seemed to have been run pretty well.

Maybe Leonhard was our first pick, but to me Parker was #2 (if not co-#1) and I can't blame them at all for pulling the trigger right now.

At least they talked to a pretty wide variety of coaches, mostly young ones, and didn't default to a name they were familiar with and who knew where the Star cafeteria was. I think we can confidently say this time the HC had at least a pretty big hand in making this call.

I'm not mad at this. Will be interesting to see how the rest of the defensive staff is put together.

I can't allow all of this damn positivity to go on like this. PARKER SUCKS!

Ahh, better. Back to the DCC I am used to.

I liked you better when you were drinkin'
I actually don't know much about the guy. The Eagles secondary was really good last year, so hopefully he sticks around and we can see how well he can do here.

What will be interesting is if we see a change in draft strategy at all. Past defensive coordinators have definitely had pet cats and a "type". I wonder if we will now see a shift in the players we go after.

On a side note Nakobe Dean is a free agent. Any thought that our new DC might want him to help run the defense?

The next part is who comes aboard the staff.

We can probably assume Whitecotton stays. Then that leaves the LBers and Secondary.

I would hope that Borgonzi gets the shoe at least.

Isn't Blankenship a FA also? (booze alert)

Edit, not a FA but his contract looks like an easy cut this year.

But Jerry has a long history of giving new coordinators "their" draft picks. Won't be surprised if we take a DB early.
