New Defensive Coordinator - Christian Parker

But we see lots of corners busts in the NFL and he got those two guys to play at really high levels right away in their careers. That speaks volumes to me. Especially considering that Dallas may be investing a top pick at corner this year and we have a guy in Revel who is very green but very physically talented. We need someone who can develop our DBs.

Anyway, surprisingly good choice in my opinion. I just don't think this will blow up in our faces. Worst case scenario he is mediocre. Which is still better than what we had last year.

Fangio gave this guy his first break in Denver, then he stayed in Denver for a few years with Payton, then I'd assume once his contract was up Fangio plucked him immediately with a promotion.

I think that's telling, especially at Parker's age and experience level.
 
I'm not so sure about this one.
 
I guess my biggest hesitation is he hasn't stayed very long anywhere he has been and I'm tired of the carousel we have had at the position.

The cover 4 stuff changes what you look for in CB's, especially out of the slot since you don't have slot guys playing traditional slot responsibilities.

A guy like DeJean is almost a CB/LB hybrid because he's mostly just operating within about 10-15 yards of the LOS. It's why Lamb and Pickens roasted him after they lost some of their DB's and moved guys around in the second game.

So if I had to guess we're going to look for something different in CB's, but of course a talented, tall, long CB will always be in demand.

He's not going anywhere unless it's for a HC job, and if he's a HC after just 1-2 years here it probably means we've made a deep playoff run.
 
Truthfully he was probably my #1 just based on being under Fangio. Guess we will see how much he learned.
 
Indiana in college basically runs the same scheme as what Fangio does, which I think is also quite similar to what Seattle runs under Macdonald.

The cover 4 stuff, if taught properly, is one of the most effective schemes because it's nearly impossible to beat over the top consistently.

Mike Macdonald was never an NFL DC before he went to Baltimore, had an elite defense for two years and then went to Seattle. Same with Campanile, no DC experience and I bet he's going to end up as the Arizona HC after one year. Shula in LA is the same deal.

Outside of the established DC types Parker was at the top of my list along with Leonhard, and I think they're more or less the same type of coaching prospects.

Macdonald, like Leonhard, at least coordinated a Big 10 defense.
 
I bet Parker was cheap getting his first coordinator gig ever and all.

That's the one thing that concerns me, if this was settling because they didn't want to compete for Leonhard.
