Saleh to the Titans. Shit. Where does Arizona turn now?

There's tons of DC openings, too. Dallas has to find out if Leonhard is serious about Dallas before we even have a chance to interview him in person. There's competition for sure.

You know agents talk to teams behind the scenes. But that doesn't mean someone's mind can't be changed.

There are a bunch of guys out there still, doesn't mean it'll be Joseph necessarily. Flores is a better HC candidate if you want a former HC with a defensive profile, but there are guys like Shula as first timers too, plus all the offensive types.
 
Saleh must like the HC paycheck to take the jobs he’s taken.
 
There's other DC jobs which are more desirable than Dallas.

We have 2 #1's coming which should be appealing. Spend a little $$$ in FA.

Have to work for Jerry and get paid cheaply by Jerry.

Another good thing is it appears Schotty has some pull here. Jerry would've never interviewed some of these guys or this many guys.

The Cowboys probably have way more appeal than we might think.

First we have the marquee franchise. You will get noticed if you do well.

Second, we have, believe it or not, some desirable pieces on defense. Quinnen Williams, Osa, Overshown, and even Bland and maybe Revel are guys that for a DC are probably attractive pieces to coach. As bad as this defense performed, the cupboard isn't actually empty.

Third, the defense was so bad if you're even mediocre here you'll look like a genius.
 
For the record I read some stuff that seemed to think Morris or Orr would be the frontrunners in GB.

"Matt LaFleur and Raheem Morris have strong professional and personal ties, with their connection dating back to their time working together on Mike Shanahan’s Washington staff from 2012–2013 and later in Atlanta in 2015-2016. LaFleur has referred to Morris as "my guy" and one of his "closest friends" in the coaching industry."


Orr was supposedly offered their DC job in 2024 but he turned them down.

Look at Saleh, 49ers defense wasn't special but he got a head coaching job because he took shit talent and got them to like the 11th ranked defense. Leonhard would be a god here if he coached our guys up to be the 11th defense.

Yep, lose the 2 best players you have on your side of the ball and still do well. It's coaching and it's scheme. I say those as two different things because those 49ers players may be scrubs but they are coached very well as scrubs. And it's not just some miracle scheme. If it was that easy another coach would just copy the plays and call them. You could just have an AI coach a defense. But it's the way the players tackle, run and hit. The confidence those guys have in their ability to fill their role. Just a great job of creating a cohesive unit.
 
And Saleh said he's calling plays on defense this time around. Learned his lesson in NY.

So true. I mean he didn't have a QB and Ulbrich did a good job as DC, but this is the better way to go. He might be alright his second go round.

He is still kind of handed an utterly shit offense. He is going to need to find the right OC to be successful. It will basically make or break this opportunity.

Pretty sure he has a better QB though. Ward started playing better down the stretch. Needs a homerun hire as OC.

That's going to be the really difficult part. It's not just selling these guys on the team. But to an assistant coach who doesn't make life changing money, the contract is going to have to be right there with any other offer. You're not going to get the "buddy buddy giving you a chance" discount.

I'm still a bit thrown off by the supposed contract for Eberflus though. Was he really one of the highest paid DC's in the NFL? Or were they counting Bears money he was being paid. If we really did spend top DC money on him, we sure as shit should be willing to do it to fix the defense the Jones's buddy F'd up.
