2026 NFL Draft Chatter

You know who Mendoza reminds me of? Goff, just physically they look very similar to me. He is a QB that may succeed very well on the right team and in the right system. But he also may look like a total bust on the wrong team. Good QB but I struggle to find those special traits.

Pretty much, I think he'll be a good QB, maybe even borderline elite in the right circumstances, but he's not a transcendent no brainer prospect.

Unless Wilson and Overshown look really strong we basically could draft the BPA on defense at any position outside of DT, where we obviously have way too much invested to turn around and spend a 1 on it. I don't think safety is a strong possibility because of the talent, although of course I'd take Downs if he was there.

So in all likelihood we'll probably need impact players at DE, LB and possibly even CB, with only two 1's and no 2/3. In my mind that means they need to do something in FA (like sign Quincy Williams), because even though I like the first round talent at all three of those positions, I don't want to feel like we have to trade down just so we can add numbers.

Other random thoughts based on some stuff I've been wondering about plus the Brugler rankings:

-David Bailey is my guy and I don't think anybody can move me off it. He's never going to be able to set the edge in a 4-3 like you want but truthfully I don't give a fuck. He's guaranteed to be a very good if not elite edge rusher, add him to Ezeiruaku, Williams and Osa and you're going to have an elite pass rush at some point in 2026. Figure out the run defense with JAG's and/or vets like Clowney and Thomas.
-Keldric Faulk looked like a guaranteed top 5ish pick when I saw him against Alabama last year but he's been really quiet this year. Part of that is schematic like Brugler says, part is Auburn sucks which demoralizes players, but he also just looks really inconsistent. I wouldn't complain at all if we took him around 12-15 but my gut tells me it'd be better to take a sure fire guy like Bailey who has no real warts aside from size/run defense, which is something a good coach can work around.
-If McCoy tests well I'll be worried about our braintrust falling in love with him. He's one of the few guys with prototypical size and was excellent last year, but I'd rather wait on a guy like Delane or Terrell with our second 1st.
-Assuming our first pick is around 12-15, with the other being around 18-24, I feel like we should go DE with the first pick (Bailey/Faulk/Bain) and then LB/CB with the second (Allen/Styles at LB, Terrell/Delane at CB).
-Reese and Downs are the obvious outliers that you take immediately if they're available.
-If we do want a prototypical 4-3 DE I like Zion Young and Quincy Rhodes, but guys like them lose some of their appeal to me because they're better fits on the inside in clear passing situations, and we already have Williams/Osa slated for that.
-If Love is there at our first pick we have to consider him. I wouldn't love going RB with the defense in the situation it's in but he'd most likely be the clear BPA and would be a seamless fit with Williams.
-Not interested in OT at all even though it might be a massive need. It's just a weak overall class with lots of guys who might be better suited on the inside. Fano has disappointed a bit and I don't think he'd be worth taking in the top 15 for us.

Kind of a strange class because you have 2 QB's with barely any starting experience who are at the top of the class, plus a guy like Mendoza who is just kid of meh as a prospect. But you know teams are going to roll the dice there no matter what, so they're going to go high unless they tank the rest of the year.

Then you have a mixed bag of position prospects with no surefire blue chip guys except Downs and Reese, both of whom play positions that teams generally avoid high in the draft.

Put all that together and I think it's going to make for a very unpredictable first round.
Bailey is a beast. I'm surprised Tech's Jacob Rodriguez isn't on that list. I think he is the best LB in college ball.

He's legit but I don't think he has the pure athleticism to be a first rounder. Would definitely consider in the 3rd though, maybe late 2nd.

Yep, you see these LBers go in the second/third round. The Browns took Schwesinger at the top of the second last year. But he ended up being bigger than expected. My guess is you'll see the guy go in the second round. Just not freaky enough for the first but doesn't mean he isn't a damn good LBer.

He has plenty of athleticism. Hell, he hurdled a CB after an INT in one game this year. He is very athletic, IMO. And, that's not

At 6'1" 230 pounds you have to be a freak athlete to go in the first round. I'm not saying he isn't athletic. But he is undersized and my guess is he doesn't run a 4.4 forty. To be clear I'd love to burn a second or third round pick on him. We don't have a third round pick currently so that's not happening. But sometimes a LBer is just a play maker. And the LBer with the freak speed is out of position and sucks because they have no instincts. It's really a position in my opinion that is a lot about instincts, intelligence and change of direction ability. But the guys who get drafted high are either big (Like the 6'3 240 types) or freak athletes or both.

Sometimes you just have to ignore the numbers. Sure he is undersized but its not like we havent put a very good undersized LBer in the NFL before. I would take him at whatever round I needed to. He is always in the thick of things and good things usually happen.

Truth is I don't even need a stud corner. Just give me a really good solid corner is can tackle and cover his man well. Usually I'd say I can find that in the second or third round. But we don't have those picks.
They're gonna have to take a new approach in free agency to fill the talent gap on the defense, no way around it.

Some veteran help in the secondary and LB at a bare minimum.

We will increase our activity this year. We will move back up to the Olaweles

It was originally "And that's not me being a Tech homer. I'm not LT or Smitty" :lol
Yeah, probably best you just leave that part off...

If we get Bailey we're going to have an elite pass rush in pretty short order.

Probably best pick for us out of all of those players frankly. Assuming of course that Pickens is resigned. McCoy scares me coming off an injury and not even haven played this season. I guess Reese would truly be the best player for us on that list but that dudes never making it to our pick.

If they let Pickens go, and presumably divert some of that pie towards making a decent FA signing or two on defense, I'd be very comfortable taking either Tyson or Tate with our first pick. Maybe even Lemon as well.

If they let Pickens go and sit around with their thumbs up their asses fuck them in the first place.

But yea, assuming they keep Pickens I think Bailey is the ideal choice, either him or Bain.

What do you guys think about Medoza as a prospect? I've really only watched a few minutes, and need to watch more. But I wasn't expecting to be that impressed, but I kind of am. He's 6-5, decent athlete, and mostly seems very accurate. Also calm and seems to make good reads. Doesn't look like his arm is crazy strong, but he could be a pretty good pro.
