LOL @ the Giants

I don't think McCarthy is a base hit.

I think he is more than capable of taking a team like the Giants and building them into a playoff team. I don't think he is cutting edge or brilliant. He isn't a top 5 coach in the NFL. But he is good. Maybe even very good. I guess I call that a base hit. Call it what you want. But it's a smart move that I hope they don't make.

I think hed be a good hire and hope it doesn't happen.

Only thing is, Dart is athletic enough that you want to take advantage of that, and McCarthy seems like more of a traditional dropback guy. Not sure it's the best fit.

Is that LOL-worthy, though? Seems like a good coaching prosect to me.

Daboll was a really good coaching prospect at one point too, you never really know.

Right, exactly. I'd far rather see them hire an unproven guy than a proven HC. Maybe Shula will be an awesome HC, but I'll take my chances over a guy that we know is good.

Lots of young promising coaching prospects flame out. I think sometimes people don't appreciate the fact that what it takes to be a good coordinator is a different skill set than what it takes to be a good HC.

All true, although a hire like that probably has a higher ceiling than McCarthy in his current state, just a much lower floor.

Like I'd take Mike MacDonald in a second over McCarthy right now, and maybe that's what Shula ends up being, or maybe he ends up being another Daboll.
