2025 Season | Hall Of Fame Game Chatter Thread | Lions vs Chargers | 7/31/2025

I originally thought Gale Sayers and Terrell Davis broke the seal on short career HOF'ers.

But I went down a rabbit hole looking for a list of HOF players with the shortest playing careers and there are quite a few with much shorter careers than Sharpe, Davis, and Sayers.

I'm surprised to see Otto Graham on this list. The way historians talked about him I always assumed he had one of those long recording-setting 15 year careers.

Yeah this list is full of shit.

I just checked and Graham played 10 seasons.

That ref is blind. Standing right there and still missed the call. That wasn't even close to being inbounds. I saw that in real time.

Holy shit. What an AWFUL call by that ref. He was standing 10 feet away looking at it.

Another scoring drive by Trey Lance.

Not gonna lie... It's gonna sting a little watching him hold the Lombardi while being named MVP of the game in 7 months.

I didn't even know Sterling Sharpe was in. I liked him back then, his was a sad story of injury cutting a career short, but no way should he be in.

But I feel like I can say that about a quarter of the Hall.

I did find it cute that he's "keeping receipts".

Eric Allen is the guy that shocks me. I remember his playing career vividly. And nothing about his career screamed HOF to me.

Fuck Eric Allen.

I forgot it was his record that Bland broke. :laff

Hey. Did you guys know that Antonio Gates was a basketball player?

Not sure if they ever mentioned that before.
Tell me they did not bring that up. Please.

He had some battles with Irvin, but really?

They are setting the CB the bar low these days.

Bayless is a clown, but it’s a bit weird Lance goes to the Chargers and looks like a totally different QB vs what Meatball Mike got out of him.

I think Harbaugh is really good at simplifying stuff for his QB. That plus it was the first preseason game of the year. It's always a bunch of guys out there not knowing what the hell they are doing. Not to take away from Lance but I wouldn't take too much away from that.

Allen was a great player. Another example of Eagles bias here that nobody wants to admit how great some of their players are or were. That guy was a fucking nightmare to Irvin. One of the few corners of the time big and strong and good enough to shut him down.

Sure, but he shouldn't be in the HoF over Woodson.
