Newsome would have more currency with me if he wasn't far on the left of all those things before it became obvious they weren't political winners. Like, if he was pointing out that the left was "too woke," before the crash I would take what he has to say more seriously.

He just doesn't want to lose an election in the state that technically has the most Republicans of any in the nation. He knows he has to play to the audience a bit there.

Right, he's just a political power-craving chameleon.
 
The truth of the matter is, it's everything.

They're too woke, yes, but it's also illegal immigration, it's the economy, it's the climate activism, it's censorship. It's all of it.

Not to mention they ran a piss poor candidate who couldn't communicate her way out of a paper bag.
