President Trump Thread (Part 2)

You think they'll be the only country to give in?
I don’t expect many countries to give in, no. I expect them (rightfully) to tell the orange idiot to go fuck himself.

And, do you think the behavior to implement the tariffs is Constitutional? It isn’t. That’s why Congress told him to fuck himself yesterday when it rejected the Canadian tariffs. Congress is the only entity with the authority to levy taxes.

The problem with congress is they move too slow and accomplish very little. I don't like the idea that a President has the power to do something like this unilaterally but I also know that congress by itself would never accomplish a good trade deal on it's own.

I don’t care whether Congress moves “too slowly” or not. That’s no excuse to willfully allow the Constitution to be violated. We have checks and balances for a reason. We cannot continue to allow the notion of an empirical presidency. That’s what allows tyranny to take over.

Exactly. The president of this country will not always have the letter beside their name that you identify with. Newly elected presidents never give up power precedents established by their predecessors.

Easy there sparky. Tariff's have been under some amount of Presidential control long before Trump. And I actually disagree with you on tariff's and the need for an ability for a quick response. Which is why these laws have been in place for a long time.

The constitution was written at a time when tariff's were the federal government's main source of revenue. But then some bastard decided we should all pay income taxes.

And I fundamentally disagree with both.

American companies doing business in those countries will start to seek manufacturing elsewhere before too long. If these countries want to keep those American companies, they’ll have to play ball eventually.

I think it’s more likely that deals are made than all our outsourced jobs come roaring back because it’s a wash to manufacture here across the board.

India
Taiwan
Mexico
Israel
Canada

Those are pretty good size countries. And that's not all of them. That was just off the top of my head.

Whether you want to admit it or not, the countries themselves matter, because we need to measure which imports and exports are ultimately impacted. And, Congress blocked the tariffs on Canada, who are not negotiating. Their new PM already said that.

So, stop drinking the Kool-Aid and look at what really matters: the money. Third world countries with products that we don’t use are irrelevant. But hey, what do I know? I’m sure penguin island’s “exports” are of massive value to us.
