I wouldn't be surprised if the Jeanty/Hampton situation mirrors Robinson/Gibbs, where Robinson (Jeanty) goes back half of the top 10 then Gibbs (Hampton) goes much higher than expected in the 10-20 range after being considered a late 1/early 2 type for most of the process.

Again, I don't want Hampton at 12 but I wouldn't be shocked if it happens after he tested.

I wouldn't take Hampton that high but nothing will shock me in this draft. There just isn't enough star power this year. So teams are going to view player 15 similarly to player 40. Which means a team could take Hampton knowing they at least won't miss.

Plus the Lions are sort of this blueprint in the NFL. Their assistants were the hot names. I could see teams trying to replicate them. They went the safe approach in that draft. "reaching" for a LBer and RB but they were safe picks. Guys you knew would be good players in the NFL. A draft this uncertain, and the Lions success, means I wouldn't be shocked to see some of that.

With that being said, I wouldn't not take Hampton in the top 25 picks. I don't think he will have a long career for a RB in the NFL. I think he takes too many hits and runs for contact. There are too many really good RBs in this draft that I think are safe bets. Why take that in the first? Just to say you didn't blow your first round pick?

It's also funny how this time of year the blue chip prospects start to get picked apart. Carter with a foot, Graham with short arms, McMillan because he didn't run a forty. These were sure fire top 10 picks. And now suddenly everyone acts like they are concerning. Obviously I'd jump for joy with any of those 3.

Yep, that plus Barkley doing so much for Philly really sucks. Means we're behind the curve and playing catchup on these leaguewide trends again. I hope it doesn't cost us a good back if we don't take one early, there's a run on them, and we're stuck again.

I mean I think you have to sort of draw a line in the sand and say these are the RBs we like and can start. And once those guys start going if you're down to the last names you have to move up for one.

That list shouldn't be Jeanty, Hampton and that's it. Now you can still take a Jeanty or Hampton if you think they are the best available. But if you like Kaleb Johnson, Henderson, Neal, Sampson, Judkins, Martinez, James, Harvey, Giddens and Skattebo then just be patient. If it's the right guy in the second then ok. If it's the third no problem.

I don't think you can wait until after the third round pick, because it's too far to your next pick. Which means if a run goes and you need to trade up, you might not have the ammunition to trade up. And I listed a bunch of RBs, they might not all be our cup of tea. My guess is the list of guys they really like may be shorter than that. So if you have to trade up from the third because your list is getting short, than you do that.

And all this is why I'm ok trading down in the first. Give yourselves more ammunition to go up or get a RB with the extra pick(s) you acquire. The draft is a lot easier with more draft picks. And these retards gave one away for Mingo who no one is counting on to fill a role as a top 3 receiver on the team.
 
Unless there's a bona fide can't miss guy available who you have ranked in the top 5-7 (probably just Jeanty and Graham, maybe Warren, McMillan or Johnson) they really should trade down even if it's slightly less value than usual.

If my options are taking someone like Golden, Harmon, Hampton, Campbell, etc. at 12 vs. rolling the dice trading down to about 18-20 with an extra 3 in hand, I'm taking the extra 3 and rolling the dice.

Same. Going as far as 20 would make me a little nervous, but to 16-18 or so would be perfect.

Yep, and sort of like last year that third will likely be a starting player. Could be a starting RB, OG or DT. But to get two legit starters instead of one has a lot of value in my opinion. I really like Golden for example. But I don't think my heart is broken if we took Egbuka instead for example. And yeah, if my fall back option is Campbell or Hampton for example (Not really my choice) I'd at least know I'm getting a rookie starter and an impact player. I have no doubt Campbell would be great in this defense. And I have no doubt Hampton would be a productive RB for us.
