I rarely do that either other than to count the early games. In years where we had more of them, it seems we have done better. That may just be my imagination though.

Which is why it's silly when people try to make an argument that the newest flavor of the month has surpassed the Cowboys as America's Team.

When teams like the Chiefs or Lions fall off, they're not a national media talking point. The Cowboys on the other hand could be dog shit and sports media shows would still build their shows around Cowboys content.
