When you are earning generational wealth regardless, quality of life things like the city you play in, the climate, your teammates, the organization, the fans, and winning should logically take on more importance.

Speaking for myself, I'd much much rather win and make 15 million than lose and make 20 million. Winning 6 games or whatever has to be miserable.

I think you'd be a super-rarity.

I'm sure a few guys think like this at first, but not after their agents and family work on them.

When the LT is on his last legs and you drafted his replacement two years ago it is. But you actually need to use the money to get a legit dude. You can't sign 3 or 4 bottom of the barrel free agents with the money.

Could be that the dysfunction in Dallas at the end of last year has him not so worried about quality of life.

This could all be posturing by the Cowboys too. They are great at offending players in negotiations.

It’s easy to say when youre not being paid millions that it’s not about money. Just ask Dak. Nah, I don’t want 60 mil per year, it’s not about money.

Of course it's about money. No one ever said otherwise. They shouldn't be expected to work for free or for a pittance when the game generates so much revenue.

But it should also be about things other than money.

45 million (per YEAR by the way) with a better chance of winning versus 60 million with a worse chance of winning is a no brainer to me.

If at some point more money isn't making you happier why do it when you are already filthy rich?

This is true this past season but it could all come apart tomorrow with him.

Im fine with moving on if Tyler is the answer at LT. If its not even a consideration then Tyron should have been signed.

Spot on.

Dak could show real leadership by taking a so-called below market value contract of 45 mil per year considering he has never won anything substantial. Hasn't even put the team in a position to win anything substantial. With the cap increase, the Cowboys could theoretically make considerable moves to help the team move forward.

Maybe he was just getting tired of cutting a deal. He could easily command $5-7M more than Dallas offered, which was probably only a slight bump up from last year.

If they would just come out and say he is the left tackle it would make me feel better. But you have Jerry talking about Larry Allen. Allen played better at guard, we all saw that.

They may need to consider the economics of the OL. Your LT should either be on a rookie contract or at the top end of the pay scale. As much as I love Martin, it is tough to justify a RG being the top guy.

I agree, I think Tyler is a probowl LT. Move him there and forget about LT for the next 12 years. And for the next 3, you have a cheap LT which is a big deal considering top guys can command 20+ mil.

Guards are much easier to find.
 
Honestly if I were Tyron I'd welcome this new chapter in my career. He's a 1st ballot HOF player and the only thing missing from his resume is a Super Bowl ring. We all know he's not winning one in Dallas. If I were him I'd find me a landing spot that gives me a legitimate shot to win before I retire.

He'll probably never say it publicly but I'm willing to bet DeMarcus Ware is extremely thankful the Cowboys cut him. Otherwise he probably would have hung around his entire career out of a sense of loyalty.

You don't want to join that long list of great Cowboys players whose careers were wasted in Dallas.

Especially in this sport where contracts aren't guaranteed and careers are much shorter than the other major sports.

Using your example, I'll also point out that that $15 million difference between 45-60 doesn't change their quality of life one bit.

I've heard several athletes mention this as one of the reasons that made it easier for them to leave money on the table for other players on the roster.

Honestly I think if Dak took less he might get a little better fan support and relieve some of the pressure he faces. When you fight to be the highest paid player in the NFL it makes the contract really hard to live up to.
