How many openings are there?

Hopefully we can pay him through the nose to stay again.

Seattle is the big one, if they get rid of Carroll I think Quinn is gone, if they keep him another year I think Quinn might stick around to see what happens here with McCarthy, while also waiting on Seattle to open up.

Aside from that I don't see too many strong possibilities.

Washington - wants a fresh face, no retreads, rumors already being floated about the Ravens DC along with a GM hire from their front office
Atlanta - no
Carolina - dysfunctional mess, may have already turned them down last year
New England - would be surprised if they replaced Belichick with a retread, but maybe?
Tennessee - would be surprised if they got rid of Vrabel for another defensive type HC, and they're 50/50 to keep Vrabel in the first place
Chargers - would be very surprised if they went with another DC type after Staley, and especially a retread, seems like the most obvious opening for a hotshot OC type
Raiders - dysfunctional mess, but maybe?

Out of all of those there might only be 2-3 realistic landing spots for him, although I wouldn't be shocked if none of them were overly interested given their unique circumstances (mostly the fact that the majority of those teams would be moving on from HC's with defensive backgrounds).

The more I think about it the more I'm wondering whether these little rumors being floated are coming from Quinn's camp to pressure Seattle into making a move and/or to smoke out interest from other teams, because there may not be as much at the moment as in years past.

So we have the Packers first.

If we win, we cannot play the Rams next.

If the Lions win, we get the Lions in a rematch of a game we've already won. Don't think the Lions won't come out angry and inspired though... we'd have to play much better.

If the Rams win, they play the 49ers, and we get the winner of Philly-Tampa, at home.

We've already beaten Philly and Detroit in Dallas this year, and Tampa is what, 8-9? 9-8?

Probably the easiest slate of Divisional Round matchups imaginable, should we move on from Week 1.

My gut says pull for the Rams to beat Detroit. I don't want that grudge match. I want either a mediocre Tampa or a cratering Philly. And the Rams can beat the 49ers.
I’m betting Rams win on the road and TB wins at home. We get TB at home and the Rams have a chance to beat the 9ers. Division rivals and all that. If we play the Rams I’m not worried. Against the Niners it just depends on which version of the ‘Boys shows up.

This is literally the best case scenario.

And I don’t care. We needed Green Bay to take out the Niners so we could feast on Fav-Ruh. I am not afraid to admit I am a cheap slut like that.

When you are the 1992-1993 Cowboys there is something to wanting to beat the best and establish a dynasty.

When you haven't won shit in 30 years and are in danger of becoming an also-ran, and your core (Prescott, Tyron Smith, Zach Martin, DeMarcus Lawrence) is aging and you are approaching a rebuild or retool anyway, in an era where you don't really get dynasties unless you have one of the best 2-3 QBs in all of football at age 23.... then you will take success however you can get it.

I 100% agree that given how fickle the league is you take whatever opportunities you can get without apologizing.

With that said, while it's true that part of the core is close to aging out, we already have a nice young core in place behind them with Parsons, Lamb, Tyler Smith, Diggs, Bland, and maybe you even include Ferguson in that?

I wish that core included one more OL/DL, but I'm not going to complain about having a top 3-5 defensive player in the league, a top 3-5 WR in the league, two top 10ish CB's, and what looks like a future Pro Bowl OL, all who are about 25-26 or younger.

Prescott is only 30 so he should have another 5-7 years left as well.

Wasn’t there a stretch when Green Bay always had to play in Dallas during regular season? Not too surprising we have to do the same with niners

we're gonna feel a pinch when some of these studs get their second contracts.

Probably, although we're going to have higher paid vets like Martin, Tyron, Lawrence and Gallup coming off the books in about the same period of time.

I'd eat it asap so the money is available for others down the road.

We can cut him this coming year for a neutral cap hit, although if we make it June 1 I assume we'd save something like $6.5M while taking a $6.5M hit in 2025, as opposed to saving nothing in 2024 and having no cap hit in 2025.

So basically, I think he's gone after this year and we'll likely use the savings to re-sign either Biadasz or Armstrong.

That's what we need to do. At minimum Tolbert and Brooks can give you Gallup level play.
