Scouting report, stat.
He is quick. Good lateral movement. Can fight through tackles if he has to. But, he won't see the field.

Agreed. HE is definitely one of a kind in my mind. His versatility is what makes him what he is though. He isn't one of the best safeties, or anything, but he can play all over the place. Not too many that can pull that off with decent results.
And, he'll knock the shit out of someone, too.

I don't think he has any carries in his career. I'm not going to hold my breath that he'll contribute anything.

Also, he's one of those guys who is 24 but looks about 64.

CAREER NOTABLES
One of the top running backs in program history as a three-time All-Big 12 performer … closed his career with 2,664 rushing yards and 40 touchdowns off 540 carries for his career … averaged 53.3 yards per game on the ground as well as 4.9 yards per carry over his career … multi-dimensional back that was able to contribute in the passing game with 91 receptions for 520 receiving yards and a touchdown … had 41 total touchdowns in his career, which ranked among the all-time leaders … IN THE TEXAS TECH CAREER RECORD BOOK: ended his career ranked third all-time in program history with 40 career rushing touchdowns … trailed only the 52 rushing touchdowns from James Gray (1986-89) and the 50 from Taurean Henderson (2002-05) … finished tied with Michael Crabtree (2007-08) for fourth in career total touchdowns as well as seventh on the career scoring chart with 246 points … was also seventh all-time with 540 career rushing attempts and then eighth for career rushing attempts … passed the likes of Larry Isaac (1973-76), Baron Batch (2006, 2008-10) and Ring of Honor member Donny Anderson (1963-65) during senior season on the career rushing list.

Lack of a running game was a thing that haunted McCarthy in Green Bay.

It's crazy that even with the Joneses idiotic attachment to glorifying their franchise history - a poor way to run a team - that they haven't insisted on committing more resources to getting a decent RB in here.

Jerk-off Jerry and the Idiot Son have been a day late and a dollar short in so many respects for 30 years. When the SF FO sees a need, they go out and get what they need.

Now this is random, but something I just decided to look into...

Michael Gallup cap hits
2023: 6.77 million
2024: 13.85 million

Mongo McGovern cap hits
2023: 4.00 million
2024: 7.90 million

We extended Gallup before 2022, which is when McGovern sort of "broke out", so hard to compare but obviously the Gallup extension was a mistake and I expect them to cut him this offseason.

And it’s all self inflicted with our FO.
Over valued talent, players that stick around too long, aversion to FA difference makers, homer-type optimism every preseason and a troubling idea of how to use cap space. Sounds more like a really shitty Fantasy Football GM than an actual NFL GM.
And it’s shown over the Jones ownership.

It wasn't the act of resigning him that was the problem but that our FO felt compelled to give him a contract as if he would continue to be a 1000 yard receiver after recovery from injury

One 1100 yard season .

The churn and burn school of roster management would have taken a wait-and-see approach, and if you can't help us, so long.

Gallup, Steele, et al. You had one good season, ergo, you'll have other good seasons in front of you. It's lazy recency-bias on the part of the inbred yahoos who own the team.
