Most are incredibly rich and many of them are used to getting their way.
Some of them are not good listeners. Some are drunks. Some are insecure children of their father.
Some are just tried and true jerkwads. Tepper has graduated to that status.
He is very distasteful, impatient and I cannot comprehend who the fuck would want to coach under him.
The NFL decided a long time ago it didn't want corporate ownership of teams. Wanted them to be family businesses like the Rooneys or the Maras. That, plus the cost of entry, the price of buying a team, has led to a new generation of ownership by guys like Tepper, and Jerry, and Dan Snyder, to name just a few.
They're self-made men, entrepreneurs with gigantic egos who were hugely successful in a given field of endeavor -- and got rich by being hands-on guys. The problem comes when they buy an NFL team. Their egos and their success in one field leads them to believe they can translate that hands-on experience into micro-managing an NFL franchise.
For them, it's fantasy football. They believe they're omnipotent, they know everything and no one can tell them anything. Snyder used to go on scouting trips with Vinnie Cerrato. Jerry sits in the stands at the Senior Bowl alongside Garrett, or invites TV cameras into the draft room, showing him conferring with Jimmy. Symptoms of the same sickness.
At some point the York family in SF just turned the keys over to Shanahan and Lynch. The results speak for themselves. Jerry turned the keys over to Jimmy at first but his ego couldn't stand for Jimmy to get all the credit. We all know the story from there.
A lot of these guys are assholes -- rich assholes -- whose wealth has shielded them from people telling them what assholes they truly are.
