What if he’d been up for renewal after last season, when a goodly amount of folk were pretty damned sure he in fact did suck? Does the owner bend over like he surely will this offseason?
Nope, its all about timing .
Daks wins again.

You know, all great QBs have up and down years for the most part. But with Dak it just seems to get magnified. The guy has one year with some INTs and everyone acts like he is a turnover machine for example. Even though Burrow wasn't very good this year before his injury, I doubt many are looking at him and going, yeah I wouldn't pay that guy.

In keeping with the Bills convo, would you pony up huge dollars for Josh Allen, given his penchant for throwing picks?

Some of it is expectations. Burrow was a 1st rounder so he gets more benefit of the doubt. Dak has to do more to prove himself. Purdy is in the same boat

And if Dak were to revert to bad Dak in the divisional round or NFCC, does that erase all the current positive reviews and value he’s built this season?

No but the guy is going to be called elite until the day he fades away like Carson Wentz. Maybe that's a little harsh but yes, Josh Allen gets overrated for a guy who is a turnover machine. And has been pretty consistent with it. Not just INT's he has had pretty high fumble numbers throughout his career as well. I hope Micah, Fowler, Armstrong and Lawrence are ready to go for some strip sacks. Dude had 13 fumbles last year. He has done better this year but it's consistently been a problem throughout his career.

Zero to do with anything.

His improved play is due to much better coaching and increased confidence due to said coaching.
Im not pointing to cause or reason for said excellence, Im noting the serendipitous timing.
Offseason will be much ado about paying Dak and being able to afford key free agents.

Okay, if there was any doubt, Ferg is officially crazier than a shithouse rat. He even talks smack to Charles Haley. :nodno

Isn’t it ironic that Daks playing his best football now at renewal time ?
Don't think it is... Dak has little motivation, from a financial/contractual standpoint, to play well... however he plays , he has all the hand (the Cowboys have no hand). IMO, it's just that he and MM have mind-melded and the "light bulb" has finally come on... this is the Dak we should see (barring something unforeseen) from here on out.

Wait what? That's absurd.

While this is true that Dak has most or even all of the leverage on his contract, that's partly true because he's playing well.

If he sucked, they certainly would not extend him and instead move on. You don't pay 50-60 million per year to a QB who is sucking.
