How do you guys do it though? Usually it can be pointed back to either a positional coach or a recruiter.

Right now, if someone is a hot shot TE prospect, you go there.

I am not familiar enough with the staff. Iowa has always had strong OLs under Ferentz, but this is something different.

I honestly think it's a Kirk Ferentz thing. I think he helps out with the TEs and Oline. He was an NFL Oline coach.
 
He should realize that NFL owners prefer hotshot coordinators or warmed over guys like Josh McDaniels over college head coaches. No one seems to look for the next Jimmy Johnson anymore. Blame Matt Rhule.

Me either. He’s been an assistant coach in the NFL before, so I have a tough time believing that Tweet.

There’s always a desperate idiot owner somewhere who is “thinking outside the box” and takes that random shot in the dark.

And then you probably get a damaged QB. They talk about how stability is helpful when they get to the pros. I don’t think this helps being able to flip with zero consequences every year.

It isn't helpful at all in that respect. But, I'm sure that many of the kids entering the portal recognize that they have little opportunity to play in the NFL or be high draft picks, so they're gunning for a payday since they likely won't get one at that level, and are leveraging the portal for that. I can't fault them for that.

That is true. I can just see how this works down the road. It has already morphed quickly into the college version of unrestricted free agency. It will impact draft evaluations too.

I completely agree. In my opinion, like any unregulated free market, it'll eventually adjust on its own. At some point (no idea when), teams will become leery of spending millions of dollars on players who don't pan out because the return on investment won't be worth it. That's when things will settle down.

I guess on the flip side it could lead to more talented QBs getting more reps. A guy who is talented but gets stuck behind another QB is going to be way quicker to pull the trigger to jump somewhere else. Giving more exposure and reps to the most talented guys in college football. It may be why we are suddenly seeing a bunch of transfer QB's looking like good professional prospects this year.

Caleb Williams
Jayden Daniels
Shedeur Sanders
Quinn Ewers
Penix Jr.

These are all the QB's off the top of my head that started at one program, transferred to another and will be drafted higher as a result. The QB's who transferred and succeeded is starting to vastly out number the amount of QB's who stayed put at one program and developed.

The genie is out of the bottle and it’s only going to get worse from here. With all the litigation in the beginning, too many NCAA skeletons were uncovered in relation to overall money the NCAA makes off the FB and BB programs and they quickly tied up the loose ends and moved on. They are no longer the 800 pound gorilla in the room.
