First of all it happens to every running back. Especially the more carries they accrue.

Second, backup RBs often have an advantage in attacking defenses in more optimal down, distance, formation, personnel, defensive fatigue, personal fatigue, and score situations.

He's still capable of being this guy and had runs like this at times this year, but the more running backs run the more they will regress to the mean.

It baffles me that people don't understand these things.

As an aside, his burst was great but I don't think he ever had great vision.

I don't think he's lost his vision or his burst.

He looks plenty of explosive to me when there's room.

The problem is that he's not as fresh in games as he was before this season.

He's carrying the ball more and he's being used in a more physical capacity which is not his strength and the combination of these things are making it to where he's not as fresh in those situations like he was before.
Conservation of energy at its simplest.

You save guys like Pollard, and sick his speed on defenses when they aren't ready for it.

You lose high end speed if you are wearing him down, and he is not physical enough to be that every down guy anyway.

Backs who are every-down physical while at the same time explosive enough to get chunk plays for entire seasons are rare. HOF talents like Emmitt Smith did that for years and years.

Pollard needs some thunder to pair with his lightning.

They at least need to start thinking about lightening his load. If our backup RB can't pass block or whatever well enough to do that then put someone in who can or sign someone who can. The days of the 20 carry RB are no longer needed. Rotate your guys.

Also our blocking sucks this year. Martin has fallen back to earth. Steele looks like a shell of himself. LT has been a rotating door. The only consistently good Olineman has been Tyler.

Smith, just to clarify.

Lol yes, gets confusing with two Smith's and two Tyler's.

even worse if you think of it like this Tyron Smith ................ Tyler Smith ..................... Tyler Biadasz.

Tyler Smith has the names of both of the guys surrounding him.

Pollard needs some thunder to pair with his lightning.

But you are paying him to be both in the grand scheme of things.

In the Joneses' minds, they had to sacrifice the Elliott price tag, rent Pollard for a year, use him up and start over.

The issue is that we basically thought he was capable of being used up.

I would expect a back in the draft, although probably earlier than is optimal.

And another thing, watch Steele in those clips.

That guy is not playing on this OL right now.

Probably still mostly because his knee isn't right yet. Plus he wasn't able to lift in the offseason like he's used to. I'm guessing a super hard worker and self-made player like that doesn't feel comfortable not able to prepare like he normally would.

If ”new things” means shitty blocking scheme that does not suit his abilities, he is right.

They are all in the same system and yet Steele is the only one struggling to this degree.

I'm not defending the blocking scheme but regardless of the scheme an OLman should not be giving up 4 sacks and a dozen pressures or whatever it was.
