I am glad he got a chance to clear that up because it was fast becoming an anthem for the GOP, because uh, you have to pick a side.
 
That song is way overrated. The popularity speaks to how dissatisfied people are. If he wrote it specifically about the GOP, given the lyrics, he's extremely misguided, because that's very much not who is causing the vast majority of what people are dissatisfied about.

I don't think that's what he is saying. I don't think it's about one political party. It's about all politicians and politics.

He did write it about them. He also wrote it about Dem politicians. He is singing about DC as a whole, and how it's the elites versus the rest of us. At least that's what I get out of the song.

Because he just happened to be interviewed after the Republican debate. He would have said the same thing if there had just been a Democrat debate.

Because what I'm hearing from his interview above, he specifically said it's about the GOP, and specifically said also that it's not about Joe Biden. He also said he is aggravated that conservatives have adopted it because he's not one of them.

The evidence doesn't seem to bear out what you're saying.

Ultimately it doesn't matter, he's just another schmoe with an opinion. The only difference is he has an overrated song in tow that people have latched onto.

He actually says it was funny seeing it used at the Presedential debate. I don't think he was saying anything about the GOP specifically. Earlier in the video he mentioned being bothered that people are wrapping politics in this. Which is a bit funny because his song is literally about the politicians. So of course politics is wrapped up in it. But I don't know that he is the most articulate guy.

He said it's not about Joe Biden and says it's much bigger than him. He is talking about the entire political corruption.

Yeah he said it's a lot bigger than Joe Biden. Again, I'm reading what the guy is saying totally different than you. But I'm guessing the guy is against all of politics. I've met many country folks like him though so I may be projecting on this dude my experiences of people that appear to be similar to him.
 
I'm with Geng on this one. (That never happens.)

I think Mr. Anthony should tread carefully. There's a reason most conservatives gravitated to the song while the Left immediately tried to smear and demean him. He should just say something like, "I'm not a political person and this song isn't about either party in particular." Because IMO he's pretty close here to alienating a bunch of people.
