Yeah, in retrospect, it was pretty obvious in retrospect Elliott was a bit of a flake from the get-go. If you take even the known character issues between him and Ramsey, yeah, we messed up. He is an unfortunate case because he was so exciting in his first few years.

It does bother me that our QB is besties with him to be honest though. It tells me there are some similarities in their makeup there that make me a bit uncomfortable.
I wanted Bosa or Buckner, not Ramsey. Buckner and Henry would have been a nice top two picks.

But Zeke enabled Dak to become a starting QB. No way it would have happened without him, especially vs Pittsburgh in 2016.

Then again, had Zeke not carried Dak, Romo would have started soon after Pittsburgh and the team would have had a real shot at a deep run.

Double fucking damn it.

The 2016 team never would've been Super Bowl caliber without a RB of Elliott's stature. Even Henry was not at that level early in his career.

Don't worry, Garrett would have found a way to fuck it up no matter who was on the field.

I doubt Romo’s back would have survived.

Or the fact that Romo and playoffs didn't mix too well

Every player has the risk of injury, and his back injury was the result of an awkward tackle. It might have gotten hurt again, but seeing Romo play again would have been worth any risk.

People have such a romantic nature about Romo. The guy was injury prone towards the end. It's the reason he retired instead of continuing to play. No one really knows what he would have looked like. He barely played in 2015. He didn't really play in 2016. He was a broken down player.

Yeah, I never understood how people wanted him back as a starter for the playoffs. The dude gutted it out in the regular season finale, but he wasn’t 100%.

Dak was also excellent in that game, we lost because the defense was a fucking sieve, not because of Dak. It's not his fault the refs pulled some bullshit obscure rule out of their ass that has never been called since that torpedoed our second drive of the game.

Is this the game with the too many men in the huddle penalty?

Pereira: If you actually enter the huddle, and then leave the huddle without participating in a play, then it becomes unsportsmanlike conduct.

What exactly is considered a "huddle"
The call itself was completely within the realm of the rule. The real issue is how often is it called. But by every definition of the rule, Butler screwed up. Or Garrett screwed up since the substitution package somehow wasn't executed properly.

I think that's right about the importance of Zeke to 2016 team, but we'll never know how good Henry might have been behind that Dallas OL. It's true that Henry didn't have a fast start in Tennessee while sharing carries with DeMarco Murray, but the Dallas OL was exceptional and Henry would have gotten plenty of carries in Dallas.

I wanted Ramsey and Henry that draft. As an SEC fan who saw plenty (too much) of Alabama, it was obvious that Henry was a monster talent. People said he was too big, ran too upright, and was too slow to the hole, but all I saw was SEC players bouncing off of him as he accelerated and then outran everyone else. He was awesome.

Although I wanted Henry, I wasn't disappointed when the pick was Zeke. Mostly, I was relieved that the Cowboys drafted an RB of any kind.

Let's remember that the front office failed to draft an RB in 2015 (a draft class that was said to be loaded with RB talent) despite having parted ways with DeMarco Murray. Their deviously clever plan was to center their running game on Darren McFadden and Joseph Randle. Franchise malpractice once again.

Gutted it out? He barely played, mainly because they did not want divided loyalties between Romo and Dak who they had prematurely decided to go with.

Behind the scenes Romo had pleaded with team management to at least have a chance to compete, but the management decided they did not want that.

I was mystified by that.

Romo, a class act, publicly turned the reins over to Dak so the team could align under a single leader, but he was fuming about not being given a chance.

The playoffs were at stake FFS, and they thought Dak was going to give the team a better shot than Romo? It was idiotic.

Romo's back was healed. It's a narrative not based in reality that he was this broken down dude because he re-broke his collarbone after coming back too soon in 2015 and experienced a fluke tackle in preseason 2016. Not for an 8 game stretch at the most.

Hell even if he got hurt, well then you fucking have Dak.

Romo's lone drive in 2016 looked professional with his safety lookoffs and in just a few throws he consistently threatened the Eagle secondary. He looked damned good, and he hadn't played at all that year before then. The receivers, understanding what was happening, looked ready to give Romo everything they had, even in a meaningless game. You saw the extra energy from Dez, and especially Terrance Williams.

After the TD, gutless Garrett couldn't get him off the field fast enough and played fucking Mark Sanchez the rest of the game. Can you imagine the controversy had Romo played the rest of the half and flattened the Eagles? There's no way he'd have gotten hurt, and Garrett couldn't have withstood that pressure.

This wasn't Joe Montana coming back for a half to end the season while Steve Young, another HOFer took over.

This was an experienced, really good QB being benched because the public liked Dak, Garrett loved that he had a puppet on the field, and the Cowboy leadership thought QBing was a bunch of statistics. Further proof our "leadership" was and still are a bunch of dense idiots. Want further proof? 2017 Dak. Meltdown Dak. Rookie Dak was no better, just better protected.
