The only reasons I could see Dak re-signing with Dallas would be 1) Injury risk 2) He really, really wants to be here.

He’s getting 29 million in salary this year and he’s already set for life, so the first while always a concern isn’t going to change his stance. If he waits until after the season he has about 7-8 teams (+1 if you count Dallas) bidding on him.

I mean, from his perspective why not wait? I mean Patrick Mahomes must be looking at the numbers being thrown around and low-key kicking himself for signing a 10-year deal

More than likely Mahomes realizes he's set for life and is more than happy taking less while piling up championships.

Yea and "less" is still half a billion, plus endorsements. Dak is just a greedy asshole.
Everyone is starting to become a greedy asshole when it comes to Jerry and Stephen. (Probably really Stephen, Jerry isn't negotiating shit anymore) Or maybe it's the cap guy we have who was a fucking mechanical engineer. Either way, the way we do deals and contracts is severely broken. So I can't put all the blame that Dak is just a greedy asshole.

If I were in Dak's shoes I wouldn't leave money on the table either. I'd do it if I were with another organization but not with the Cowboys.

The Joneses have repeatedly shown that they have very little interest in spending money during free agency. I'm not leaving money on the table just for them to use that money to re-sign my current teammates who aren't good enough to get over the hump.

They'd need to show that they're serious about brining in EXTERNAL talent before I even consider giving them a hometown discount.

Either it gets done today for dramatic effect or not at all.

It doesn’t really matter if they sign Dak or not….Jones is delusional and has always been delusional about his ability as GM and the actual amount of core talent on his team.
Dak isn’t doing shit in the next 5 years, mostly because he’s regressed in what he used to do best and because he’s not shown the ability to step up in big games.
And even if you somehow ignore the Dak situation you can’t ignore the fact The Braintrust isn’t going out to spend the money on true difference makers to tilt the scales. Jones idea is to spend huge money on 3-4 players and then take the Dollar General route on the rest of the roster. Dak needs a more talented roster around him to win a SB than a Mahomes or Brady and Jones isn’t going to give him that.
The NFL path to win and blueprint is out there for anyone to copy but Jones is narcissistic and wants to do it his way or no way.

I think we can all agree that over 20% of the cap spent on Dak is egregious. That's a severe handicap for an organization that couldn't put together a championship team with 100% of the cap available to them.
I’m assuming the “just bad luck” in the above report is someone being coy about how fucking stupid and absolutely useless this FO is. They truly have no business running a football team. Making money for a stadium or for themselves? Absolutely. But building an NFL roster? Fuck no.

While true there are at least 10 QB's who got deals that were 20%+ of the cap, including guys like Goff and Murray. It's basically a binary choice, do you want to keep them or not?

I don't really but I also don't want to be shit for 2-4 years potentially, so I'd be fine with signing him as long as they aggressively start looking for his replacement in the 2025 draft and onward.

If they would aggressively try, I would like that too. But keeping Dak assures us to be picking about 20 every year, which isn't an advantageous place to be, especially considering we don't usually accumulate a lot of draft picks that make it easy to move up. Given how they do business, it might be better in the long term for us to bottom out for a year or 2.
