Awesome show of leadership during a fricking global pandemic. WTH??

We may totally disagree with the WHO, we may even find them useless and incompetent, but quitting makes it impossible to steer the right solutions.
GTFO this was absolutely the right move. We shouldn't be giving one penny to those China owned cockholsters

We have our own scientists. Why exactly do we need the WHO (who has shown on a transparent level they are in the Chinese pockets)?

We are more effective helping the world while compromising and working with representatives from the rest of the world.

When we cut bait there is now nothing preventing the cockholsters running the WHO from implementing policies that don't help the US. At least when we were there we had influence. We also lose access to help the WHO might have provided us.

Like when the Soviets failed to show up at the UN security council meeting and suddenly had UN and US troops in South Korea as a result.

Moves like this turn us inwards, makes us less respected as world leaders, and less able to influence health concerns abroad.

Read that bold part again, then maybe it will make sense why we quit that useless and incompetent organization.

What help? They purposely delayed the release of information they had from China at the beginning of all this AT THE REQUEST OF CHINA. Help, my ass.

Yeah, they are clearly being influenced. Doesn't mean you pick up your ball and go home, quitting the damned UN. I mean we have used that kind of influence within UN orgs all the time.

WHO has resources from a common UN budget that we have contributed to. Their website says they have a staff of 7000 people worldwide.
Why permanently bail on influencing how health issues are addressed worldwide just because we think the WHO isn't representing China's numbers during this one pandemic?

From the outside looking in, this makes us look petty, short sighted, and weak.

They literally withheld info that led to the deaths of Americans.

That's exactly what it means. They put hundreds of thousands of American lives at risk by what they did. It's a no-brainer move to me.

Fuck the WHO. We should be worried about what's wrong with our own house before we worry about the rest of the world. We've done far too much of that in the past. We've been the world's babysitter and provider for far too long. And mostly get shit on for our troubles.

Take care of our own first. Just like every other country in the world does. Spend our money on our hungry. Our homeless. Our sick. Our infrastructure. Etc... Quitting this shit stain of an organization is a good first step in doing just that.

He has simply weakened our influence over global health. Nothing else.

There is no moral victory here, though clearly that's what he's trying to show purely in order to win support and get re-elected.

We joined that organization in 1948 and now suddenly we quit?

Trump is getting slammed for his handling of the pandemic. This is a feeble attempt to somehow pass the buck.

I know this may be hard to believe, but I actually think it is what's best for America without any regard to any election.

This just doesn't make sense, is highly visible, and has lasting repercussions.

This move is totally focused on the election.

I actually liked Trump's tariffs. They sent the right message. This doesn't.

why should the US be the primary financial source to an organization who has been utilizing an agenda counter productive to our cause. This organization was taking Money with one hand and pissing on our shoes with the other.

Well FWIW, I heard this wouldn't take effect until next year, so we could change our minds if they made a major change... like say a president who isn't in Xi's back pocket.

But even if we do leave for good, we can use those $850+ million we give to the WHO in our own way to help other countries. And almost certainly with less waste and fraud.

Yeah we were by far the biggest financial contributor to the WHO. The best way to get the change Ravi wants is to withold funds and begin the process of walking away. Why spend a fortune on something that does nothing in return? How are you going to get the organization to change unless you do exactly what the President has done.

The side that ahould be concerned in this situation is the WHO, not the US.
