No shit.Cuban Missile Crisis says "hi."

Hell, I would say even the cold war was way more consequential.Cuban Missile Crisis says "hi."
Apples and oranges comparing a few weeks to a month stretch to an extended ground war. And even with that said, this situation could easily devolve into something nuclear given how desperate Russia seems.Cuban Missile Crisis says "hi."
Cuba was a direct existential crisis, not a proxy situation like we have in Ukraine. That alone made it more consequential for Americans. I'm in favor of sending money and arms to Ukraine in lieu of soldiers, but this thing can't go on indefinitely. People lose interest.Apples and oranges comparing a few weeks to a month stretch to an extended ground war. True, and no it can't, but this is as cut and dry as you get in the nebulous world of geopolitics where you have a clear bad actor who obviously pines for the days of the USSR (and yes, Putin would love to turn back the clock to the actual communist USSR days) as a global hegemon, and another country purely defending themselves who is clearly aligned with the west, so there has to be commitment there in my opinion.Cuba was a direct existential crisis, not a proxy situation like we have in Ukraine. And, exactly what is the cap on that commitment? You started this conversation with "at all costs", so is there truly not a cap for you? Send them money until our economy completely collapses? We have given enough. We should be out of this by now.True, and no it can't, but this is as cut and dry as you get in the nebulous world of geopolitics where you have a clear bad actor who obviously pines for the days of the USSR (and yes, Putin would love to turn back the clock to the actual communist USSR days) as a global hegemon, and another country purely defending themselves who is clearly aligned with the west, so there has to be commitment there in my opinion.
It's a fluid thing but yea, ideally I'd continue supporting until Russia's goals fall apart and Putin potentially loses power. The events of the last few weeks are pointing in that direction although it'll still take a good amount of time, especially if we're talking Putin potentially out of power. And, exactly what is the cap on that commitment? Because we have all the money in the world. The spending has GOT to stop. It's a fluid thing but yea, ideally I'd continue supporting until Russia's goals fall apart and Putin potentially loses power. So yea, I'd accelerate at this point rather than putting my foot on the breaks given the weakness they're showing.
Yea, but how about if they hold sham elections to annex Ukrainian territory that they're holding on to by a thread and could lose in the coming weeks?I read Putin had serious health problems. Who knows how reliable these things are, because there've been so many wishes reported as truth through this entire episode. But if true, he might not be around much longer anyway.
And besides... one problem with these regime changes is we don't know that the next guy will be any better.
One thing is for sure, we better not mess with their border at all. They're understandably extremely paranoid about invasion. Talking about the Cuban Missile Crisis above... the last thing we need is another one of those.
I know you didn't, I'm just taking your statement (which is true) and making the point that what they're doing is insane and that their plan is to seemingly lie through teeth to the world and then hold the world hostage using the threat of nuclear weapons if their "borders" are threatened.Um, I never claimed "It's Russia" or excused the invasion or anything Putin has done.
It's like a terrorist with a bomb on him. He may be totally wrong, totally crazy, but you better respect the damage he can do.
And my 401kAll I care about is gas prices.
Yes, I care about gas prices and your 401k.And my 401k
